August 2020 Story and Poem Contest Rules: Winning stories and poems will be published in Pony Pals Magazine. All entries must be original, meaning that the member who enters them must have written the text. To be eligible the story or poem must have a horse or pony in it someplace. Stories should be suitable for all ages, including younger members. All entries published in the Magazine will earn 500 Wiggins Bucks, the best stories and poems will earn 3000 Wiggins bucks and trophy for the writer. Pony writer quills are awarded every day, remember to quit the scavenger hunt and restart it after you get your quill to earn a higher score. Jane Crandal & JB

The day of the Cleveland horse show shone bright with promise.As I walked through the bright barn with wildflower,I made sure to peek into every stall and wave to Erin every time I passed her when I walked by the arena.I noticed Kara Kendrick struggling to get the girth on her horse. "Hey Kara,do you need help?"Kara growled.In a sharp tone she said: "No, and certainly not from you,since you can't stay on your own horse!"I flinched.I knew Kara was prideful,but why that backlash? "I can stay on wildflower just fine!"I snapped back. "Your father couldn't." Kara retorted.I bit my lip and blinked back tears.My father had died in a riding accident.I couldn't believe Kara had just said that. "That doesn't affect how I can help tie a girth."I choked out. As she danced with her mother in the pasture, Sam whispered in awe, "Oh she's going to be a star!" This little filly had the most beautiful coat that just made her stand out from the rest of the foals for sale. Sam knew that she wanted to buy that one, but she couldn't at the time. Sam did as many odd jobs as she could to save up to buy this little filly. Sam stopped by as much as she could, to check if the filly was still there. After a while, Sam had enough money to go get her! However, once she got to Mr. Kendrick's farm, she learned that someone else had bought her. Sam walked home with teary eyes and a broken heart and told Grandma Jo all about it. Jo comforted Sam with a hug and a warm meal, which made Sam feel a little bit better. Jo and Sam kept an eye out for that filly every livestock sale in town. A few months later, Jo and Sam visited the auction just to see what animals they had there. None of the horses there caught Sam's attention so far. Then they brought the last one out, it turned out to be the filly! Sam pointed her out to Grandma Jo, this was Jo's first time seeing the filly. Jo bid on her for Sam. They got a little run for their money, but they ended up winning the bid! Jo gave Sam the money to buy her and asked, "What'cha gonna name her?" Sam, with the biggest smile on her face, replied, "She looks like a Star to me!" Grandma Jo smiled and nodded, then they loaded Star up into the trailer to bring her home. As soon as the truck stopped, Sam hopped out of the truck to get Star settled in her new forever home. Sam and Star did everything together, they became the best of friends. More importantly, they grew together.	user no longer exists & ---

The first show is always a blur, There are horses and ponies all around, And always a little more busier than you would prefer. And in spots there are little mounds of brown! When it is your time to show, You give the cue to canter You feel like you are a glow!, And you love your horse’s little panter! You finish the course smoothly, And you pet your horse’s mane, Your horse’s whinnie at the end is very soothing! And you feel like you are flying like a drop of rain!	MurphyPoo & Ruby
