Hay, Hay, Hay
By Adeline HC

"Hay, hay, hay!"
My head whipped around. My brow bent, confused. "What?"
My friend, Leah, grinned. "It's how horse people show how jolly they are? You know, instead of the usual Santa 'ho, ho, ho'."
"Really?"
"No, but it's how I do it." Leah smiled. "Need a hand mucking those stalls?"
"Sure," I mumbled back. "Why are you so chipper this morning?"
Leah shrugged. "I enjoy this time of year. Somehow it always feels more casual around the house, and it feels nice and homey. Like a warm, cushy pillow."
"A pillow?" I grunted. I guess I didn't have a right to rain on her happy thoughts, but I couldn't understand them. What was so great about the holidays?
"Are you riding today?" Leah asked. Leah boarded her horse at the riding stable I worked and rode at. I exercised yearlings, rode loafing horse, and did other barn chores; unloading hay, cleaning tack, mucking stalls, grooming horses, sweeping the barn halls, mowing, and a whole lot of other stuff. I owned a horse, but lately, she had been on the backburner because of how busy I was.
"Are you?" Leah asked again.
"I might," I said but didn't promise anything.
"Okay, well, I'm going to go tack up Wizard. He's still in the fourth pasture, right?"
"Actually, no. The boss told me to move him in with Frosty and George. The mares have been picking on him again," I said.
Leah's hands were on her hips as she shook her head. "They'll be on the naughty list for sure."
I shook my head, rolling my eyes.
Leah chuckled as she walked down the hall.
I finished my chores, then decided to join Leah on her ride.
I fetched Carrol, my paint mare, and led her into the barn, searching for Leah. I knew she was probably still pampering Wizard as he stood in the crossties. And I was right. Leah stood, giving the bay a kiss on the cheek.
"May we join you?" I said.
Leah looked over at me and smiled. "Sure. You want a peppermint treat to give to Carrol? I packed extra."
Leah handed me two, and Carrol lipped them from my palm. I patted her. "My sweet girl."
We tacked the horses up and headed outdoors. It was silent for a while, but I needed to ask Leah a question.
"So, Leah, why do you like the holidays so much?"
"Well, it gives everyone a sudden passion for giving, which makes others happy. I love it when I see people happy." Leah said.
"Yeah, sure, I guess, but don't you think it's kinda twisted that that only happens once a year? Why can't people feel good and generous every day of the year? They just reserve themselves for that one time a year, and usually, they just buy junk. It's all a fad." I grouched.
"I guess you can look at it like that. Sure, I do wish happiness and giving happened like that every day of the year, too, but don't you think it is better to have given once, than never at all? I don't like waiting for Christmas to come around just for people to give, either. I try and do it all year round. And then, when Christmas comes, I can do it again, and everyone else is also giving around me. I think it's so much better to give than to receive."
It all sounds so perfect when she says it like that, I thought.
"So, you like Christmas, because..." I prodded.
"Because everyone is giving. And hopefully, they are giving out of the goodness of their heart, not thinking about the things they'll get in return. When I give, all I think about is smiling faces," Leah admitted.
"I guess I better get with it, then, huh? Giving, and such." I said.
"You mean you haven't gotten started?" Leah teased.
I chuckled. "Yep. With all the work I've been doing, I haven't had time to do anything, not even ride my sweet girl." I said, rubbing Carrol's neck.
"Well, then, there's no time like the present to set the giving mood. Ready to show how jolly you are?" Leah asked.
I laughed. "As ready as I'll ever be."
"Hay, hay, hay!" we shouted.
Leah looked at me. "Don't you feel better?"
I felt a smile on my face. "I sure do."

"Katlyn." I turned around to see my Ex-Bff Liana, tears in her eyes. Staring down to the ground of a horse stall, I thought about what had happened. I had cheated at a recent horse show, Bridgewood, making Liana fall, which had resulted in her falling and breaking her leg, and... her horse... Night Star, having to be put down. Of course, I regretted it.....but... it was Veronica who was currently getting the blame, even though I hadn't done anything. I could feel Liana's sharp eyes burning onto my back. looking back up, she glared at me. "Veronica told me everything." she started to cry. hard. "You were blaming her for everything you did to me! she's banned from the stable now!" her eyes were flaming, like fire. "And .." her sentence hung. She took a deep breath and looked me in the eye. "You killed Night Star." At that, I felt a wave of pain. "I...I...I'm Sorry..." I started to tear up, but Liana held my eye. "Sorry yourself." She folded her arms. "We're done, Katlyn. Nice going." She walked away, leaving me staring after her. I had just officially lost my best friend. I dropped my pitchfork, running to my truck, and I got in. I could feel a flood of hot, regretful tears streaming down my face. I pressed the pedal and drove out of the stable.
driving home, my iPhone rang. It was my mom. I let it ring, and the rush of tears flood down my face again, making the road unclear, I tried to wipe the tears away, but a few seconds later, I felt sharp pain then everything went black. My last thought was, "Car Crash."
5 HOURS LATER
My eyes flickered open, and I heard beeping, and voices. There was a friendly face looking over me and smiling. "Hi. I'm Dr. Grace Peter." I rubbed my eyes. "Hi? what am I doing here?" It was obvious. I was in the ER. "You got in a Car Crash Hun." just then I heard my phone ring and Dr. Grace handed me it. "Here's your phone. It was saved." I smiled "Oh, Thank you." I looked at the screen, blinking a few times. Liana was calling me. Dr. Grace left the room, and I answered her. "Liana?" I was the first to speak. I could tell she was crying. "Katlyn! are you ok?! I heard you got hit! I'm so so so sorry!!" I started to cry "Liana... I'm so so so so sorry! It was AWFUL to do what I did.. do you really forgive me??" Liana's Tears seemed to fade away. "YES! I'm so so sorry!!"

To be continued........
I hope this was ok and abided by the pony pals Rules! <3

I was on the plane coming from the Czech Republic I was moving to wiggins permanently I had lived in the Czech Republic for most of my life and now I was coming to wiggins. A couple of hours later the plane landed in wiggins. It was time to start my new life. We drove to the new house. I unpacked everything and decorated my room. I went to the barn where my horse Snowbell was I tacked her up and rode her to a clearing. Where I spotted three girls.”Hi I’m Ashleigh”. “We’re Anna,Pam and Lulu”. They said.” We’d love to be your friend” “sure I smiled at them as we went for our trail ride.

It was in September 2018. I was training for a hunter jumper show. My instructor wanted me to enter a jumping class, so she started to teach me.I've jumped about three feet before, so I wasn't too scared when she put up 2 two foot jumps on the right side of the arena. Sting, the 10 year old gelding I was riding was known to be stubborn, but he and I got along well.I was never that good at jumping, and so it turned out, Sting caught on. He never wanted to take the second jump. Being only one stride away, neither did I. My instructor got upset because I never whipped him when he balked. I didn't see a reason to hit him, I never did. So she told me, "I want you to hit him harder." And she told me to hit him at a stand still to see what hard meant to me. I tapped him. She grabbed the crop, Sting freaked, and then she kicked him hard in the side. As he shied away, half-rearing in the process, she yelled, "THAT'S HARD!" Sting was only 12 hands, so she really clobbered him one. That's one thing I hated about her. I calmed Sting and took him around. As we approached the first jump, my instructor told me to hit him, so I stupidly listened and smacked his shoulder. I knew immediately that it was too hard. He flew over the first jump, clearing it by at least 2 extra feet. My feet slipped out of the stirrups and I pulled back hard on the reins to stop him. But Sting had got the message and flew over the next jump. I had his mane in my hands as he headed for the wooden fence. He veered to the left at the last minute and I sailed off.I don't ever remember hitting the floor. I don't remember wrapping my arms around the pole I just hit. I don't really remember how long I was unconscious. It wasn't long, but the only reason I came to as because I heard someone screaming. It was so loud. It turned out that was me. I opened up my eyes and saw Sting's belly. My instructor was yelling at him to move. He was actually standing over me, my feet between his back legs and my head behind his front right. He finally moved, and I was still crying. My instructor told me to let go of the pole, so I did and screamed in pain. My back felt like it ripped in two. One of the cats jumped from the bench she was on and started to lick my face. I could move, so nothing was broken. Except for my front tooth. I chipped it in half.I ended up brusing several ribs and discs in my back. I couldn't ride for about two months let alone sit. When I got home that day, my mom picked up my helmet and gasped. I didn't know why. I asked if it was broken. She turned it to me. On the back of my helmet was a dent in the Troxel foam. It was about 4-5 inches long and 1 1/2 inches deep. When I fell, somehow I missed my face and instead hit the back of my head. But I could never explain how I ended up facing the pole.Sting and I placed last in our jumping class, because he picked up on my nerves. Go figure. But we did get 2nd in Western Pleasure, and guess what. In my jumping class...even though he didn't listen to what I asked, I never did one thing...I never hit him. I think that's why he and I had the ultimate trust.

I left that farm. I hated letting go of the bonds several of the horses and I shared, including Sting. I know share that bond with Sunny, the miserable Paint that no one likes. Except me. So far, I've been told I'm the only one who's ever gotten him to gallop, and the only one he hasn't run away with.Still, I never get on a horse without my helmet, and you shouldn't either
