By PonyGal103
A horse give you the wings you thirst
A horse gives you friendship and freedom first
A horse will be there to listen to your sorrow
A horses will always be there tomorow
A horse is the best kind of loyal
A horse is the one who sees you through toils
A horse sees your need and care
A horse sees you and will always be there
A horse can be your very best friend
A horse will always be there to the end. | Ponygal103 & Sai | 2017-12-31 03:35:49 | | Hope, Love, And light
by SWC
The sky was black,
The darkness rapped itself around the world like a blanket,
When all seemed lost there was a shrill, a beautiful yet strong sound piercing the air,
It was Hope,
Love,
And light,
A horse, with a golden coat shimmering in the light,
The silver flowing mane and tail made it all the more amazing,
She came to our rescue when mother earth needed it most,
Hope,
Love,
And light.

Chapter 3
By PonyGal103
I squeal, and hug my dad, I run into the barn, I love old buildings, especially barns. I love the musty smell, the dirt mixing with the hay in the air. I breath really deep and, well I sneezed, but I didn't care. My dad walked in caring two brooms, he handed me one, and we both started sweeping, tem minuets later, I had swept four stalls and I was working my way back, when I crashed into a door, I turned and swung the door wider, there was a large tack room, I set my broom down and wandered in, I gasped, the room was awesome, there were saddle racks, stacks of buckets, shelves of, a lot dust actually, but I loved the room anyways. An hour had pasted and my dad and I had almost cleaned the barn, I was scrubbing the floor of the small office like room off the tack room when my dad walked in from cleaning the hay loft. He says, "Almost done Brooke?" I reply "Yeah almost why?" He laughed, "Well what is the point of the spotless barn if there aren't any animals in it?" I smile and throw down my brush, we're going now?" I ask "Yep, the wranglers just brought in a new group from the cities." We brought all of our things into the house, and put them away. We walked out and got in the car. We drove about 15 minutes away and came up to a large blue house on the west side of town. We pulled up to the drive were about 30 other cars were parked. We got out and walked around the side of the house. I gasped all I saw were horses, brown horses, black horses, small horses, big horses, horses eating, sleeping, standing and horses running. There were pens all around the yard, some small enough for only one horse, some large enough for ten horses. My dad lead me to a medium pen near the back of the pens, I looked closer and I saw my name on a paper, I turned to my dad, "What is this for?" He answered "This is your pen, any horses that is not in a pen like this, you can catch, and put in here, but on rule, if someone already has a horses, you can not take or ask for them. Got it?" I nod and then ask. "How will I catch the horses," He pulled two things from a basket in the door to the pen, they were a halter and a large carrot. I smile and take the things. I asked my dad of he was going to come, but he said he had a pen so he would go and look for his horse. I turned and walked off into the maze of pens.

"Miss, your luggage." said the coachmen, handing down Jewels Night's bag of belongings. She looked out across the rugged landscape. The travel was rough and trying, and now she was out here in the wilderness, waiting for the sheriff of Gold Dust. So far, he hadn't shown up. He had suggested she be dropped off a few miles out of town, so he could escort her into town, and not worry about missing her arrival in the coach, for many of the locals weren't too happy about her business in their community. And they wouldn't be too friendly to her upon arrival. So, here she was, waiting.
Jewels looked around for some shade in the desolate land. There was a tree without many leaves, but she wasn't about to complain. She propped herself up beside it, and waited. The minutes stretched into tens, but by then, she was beginning to feel drowsy. Her eyelids fluttered. She couldn't help it. It had been a long travel to get to where she was. First the train from New York to Illinois, there she caught a ferry to go over the Mississippi, then another train to Lincoln, Nebraska, and then there she hopped aboard a stage coach all the way to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she caught another coach and came out all the way to Gold Dust. Or, at least, a few miles out of Gold Dust. Yes, it had been a hard travel. Now that she was here, she relaxed and she fell into a deep sleep.
"Ma'm? Ma'm?" called a voice she tried hard to recognize. Jewels mumbled a yes, hoping her dream would end so she'd know who this mysterious voice belonged to. "Sorry for being late, I was out inspecting a cattle drive. It took longer than expected. Glad I planned ahead and had you dropped off here." said a low, assured voice. Suddenly, Jewels realized this was not a part of her fascinating dream. This was real.
She jumped awake, looking around in a daze. The sun was setting in a glow. The air was still and peaceful. Jewels looked up to find a man standing a few feet away, looking down at her. She rushed to her feet. "Sheriff Fisher, I believe?" Jewels asked, hiding a yawn. "Yes, ma'm. Ed Fisher. We're just a few miles outa town. So, if you'll just follow me, we'll be on our way." Sheriff Fisher, said moving away. "Let me just get my bag." Jewels sighed. She looked around, becoming frantic. "I took the liberty and loaded it on my pack animal. Ready?" he asked. Jewels nodded slowly. She followed him up to three horses. Jewels had the feeling she would be making her grand entrance into Gold Dust on the back of one.
She was quickly hopped aboard one of them. She, very definately, felt unbalanced. Sheriff Fisher told her that she could hold the horn of the saddle with her hand to stay balanced. She quickly grabbed hold. "Just one hand, ma'm. You'll need to control old Ace here with the other." the sheriff informed her. Jewels looked at him as if he was crazy, but she was finally forced to guide the animal, as the sheriff was moving away with the pack horse. Jewels looked down at the ground nervously, hoping she wouldn't end up there the wrong way.
Usually, a mile in the city consisted of only a few minutes. Jewels soon learned that a mile on horseback was agonizingly long. But, finally, a town that she guessed was Gold Dust came into view. At last!
It was roughly nine when they reached Gold Dust. Jewels wondered where her acquired building was situated. She had rented the old church building. She hoped it wasn't in bad shape. But, she'd worry about that tomorrow. Right now, she wanted to get to the boarding house she had been promised to stay in.
The sheriff halted their small carivan in front of a building on the outskirts of town. It held the title Sheriff's Office~Jail.
Jewels eyed the sheriff warily. He's not a gentlemen if this is how far he's taking me, Jewels thought with despair. She scrambled her way down from the horse and waited for the sheriff to give a sign he was going to show her the way.
He walked inside his office and Jewels hurriedly walked after him. She was not going to be caught alone in the dark, lost. "Mr. Fisher, am I to just loose my way in your town, or are you going to be a gentlemen and show me the way to my board?" Jewels asked in surprise. "It's Sheriff Fisher, and I was just unloading my gear. Shall we." the sheriff said, extending his arm. Jewels sighed in releif. "Thank you." she smiled. "Your welcome. The boarding house is just a few buildings away. You'll be happy to know that Mrs. Hanover is a firm believer in your God. One of the few in this town that does. This way." the sheriff said.
The streets were filled with shadows, Jewels noticed nervously. Some of the shadows moved, and that was even more nerve racking. Jewels realized she was clutching the sheriff's arm and released her grip. She sent a small prayer heavenward and felt her strength returning. She would not be afraid of this town. More importantly, the future. She had God on her side.
Even so, she felt more releif flooding in when she saw Mrs. Hanover's Room and Board. Her knees wobbled in the doorway.
The sheriff pointed the way to the check-in desk and then went on his way. Jewels walked confidently up to the counter and rang the bell. While doing so, she took a look around the place. It was really just a quant, comfortable house, not the normal hotel you would see in the city. "May I help you?"
Jewels jumped and looked back to see a homely round face studying her. "Oh, yes. I'm Ms. Night. I sent word that I was coming and asked you to keep a room open for me?" Jewels asked, catching her breathe. "Oh! So, you're Ms. Night! Yes, I have a room waiting for you upstairs. Come with me." the women said in delight.
Jewels followed the chattering women to a staircase. "I was quite pleased when I recieved your telegram. It's been too long since we've had good, honest Christianity in this town. The last preacher we had left town a few years ago. Needless to say, that means we have a church. And you'll be happy to know it's in nice repair. The caretaker, in return, lives there. You'll meet him tomorrow. Oh, what a joy it'll be if some of the township of Gold Dust clean up their lives and listen to the Word. Now, that'd be the day. Let's just pray that, God be willing, he'll change their minds about Christianity. Here's your room." Mrs. Hanover beamed brightly. Jewels had had a hard time keeping up with the women's words, but she got most of it. This town was going to be a hard one to minister to.
Jewels awoke bright and early the next morning. She didn't want the day to be wasted in any way. So, as soon as she had her breakfast, she asked Mrs. Hanover to show her the way to the church.
Life outside the boarding house was already buzzing as well. Men on horseback clopped along the road, tipping their hat's accationally. A steer somewhere in the town bellowed angrily. Dog's barked in alley ways. Finally, she reached what seemed to be the church. This church had no steeple like most churches Jewels had seen. Instead it was a long, one story building. The white paint was chipping off, the lawn was more than overgrown, and it held no trace of green. But, other than that, Jewels was thankful. There were no holes in the windows, the wind didn't make the building creak, and the exterior was healthy, no the less. Wood floors greeted her as she opened the front door. A dozen wood chairs were kept in neat rows. A small table and chair stood in front of the rows, probably used for the purpose of pulpit. Yes, this would do nicely. Though it wasn't quite attractive to the eye, the outcome of the meetings weren't based on what building you were in.
The door creaked behind. Jewels turned and saw a tall, black man. "You mus' be Miss Night. I'm Joseph." the man said, extending his hand. "Ah, you must be the caretaker then. Glad to have your acquiantence. You've kept it in neat order, for which I am thankful." Jewels said, satisfied. "Your welcome, mu'm. It's been a long time since these walls have held the Lord." Joseph said sadly, but hopeful. "I aim to change that, Joseph. Now, with God's help, we can raise this church up again." Jewels smiled eagerly.
"You don't knows how long I's waited to hear 'dose words. Where do we start?" Joseph asked hopefully. "Well, we need to decide upon the dates for which we will open our doors. Then we must make flyers to hand out. Where's the store?" Jewels asked. Jewels bought up thirty sheets of paper. There was no printing shop in Gold Dust, so that forced her to start making the flyers by hand. With the help of Joseph, though, she finished just before the Lord's day.
She thanked God for the success in finishing the flyers and asked for the success of the meetings as well. "Even if I touch only one persons life, it will be worth it. Bless these meetings, God. Be with me, and let thy Word flow through me. Thank you. Amen."
