Waves
By Fier

I see the waves
Saying hi.
Then they go away.
Goodbye!
Rise and fall. Swing and sway.
And so they remind me of this horse of mine.
She rises and she falls
Over the ground.
Or just waits for me to call.

The Yellow Ribbon
By Fier

I rode Paris into the ring. We jumped and we flew, and got first place.

Haha, not quite. First of all, I am deathly scared of jumping, which is pretty ironic, considering that my horse is named after a tall building. And second, I have never gotten a ribbon, much lest first place. And that is because I don't compete. But I also don't just sit around at home with my seven horses, riding bareback through the forest, like you see in magazines.

As days passed by
I felt like I flied
Bye-bye was my cry

I rode through the wind
to clear my mind
bye bye was my cry

We jumped and ran
she loved the sand
Bye-bye was my cry

And now she's gone
and I'm alone
Bye-bye is my cry

Legends of the Sky:
Skylark, the Baby Delivery Service
By Fier

When the wind blows hard enough to sweep anyone up into the air, Skylark goes out to fly. Everyone knows why Skylark the Pegasus is, just they can't remember it. Before everyone is even born, their souls sit around the campfire, waiting for the wind to come. When it does, everyone tries to stay on the ground, not wanting to go into the world, the harsh place that it is. But one of them always flies off into the wind, Skylark rushing to save them, letting them be born. But sometimes, she can't save them, blown by the wind too far to ever come back. But one day, to Skylark's surprise, two souls floated off in the wind, and she caught both of them. That is how the twins were born.

The Mysterious Ride

A horse and rider traveled up the road. It was a simple and normal scene, but the horse and rider were neither normal. The horse was blind. And the rider was deaf. No one liked the looks of it at all. It was not natural to see such a sight. They all claimed the rider to be a witch of some sort, but of course that was not true. The horse they all claimed to have been taken over by some spirit or other. But again, that was false. The only real mystery was the special and loving and trusting bond the horse and rider had. The horse trusted the rider to be his eyes, so he may see where he's going and protect them both. The rider trusted the horse to be his ears, so he may know that there was something to pay attention to. And all that trust was built on love for each other. Yes, it certainly was a mysterious situation. Who would ever trust their life in the hands of a horse? That rider certainly did. So, learn from them and be thankful for ears to hear with, and eyes to see things around you, to see your loved ones and to hear their gentle tones. And, build your relationship with your horse. Who knows, maybe you could become deaf, and your horse, blind. So, plan ahead, so that if you have a mysterious ride, it won't be as mysterious as comfortable.

How I mailed my pony to Hawaii

Story written by sweetsolo
Based on a true story:

"How I mailed my pony to Hawaii"... yes, that is actually the title of this story. You may be thinking, "how can anyone mail a pony anywhere?" Well, I'm about to tell you the answer.

On Christmas morning, I awoke with a start. I looked outside to see palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze. I could also see my two Quarter Horses, King and Solo, munching on bright green grass in my backyard. I live in Hawaii, so it is hot and sunny all year. I have never seen snow before. I ran down the stairs and into the living room. My parents and siblings were waiting for me by our Christmas tree. We opened presents, laughed, and played together. Before we went down to the barn to do our chores, my mom had my siblings and I sit down in front of her. She wanted to tell us what our last Christmas present is. "Well..." she said. My mom was smiling. "We are going to have another mouth to feed."
My youngest sister, Maya, gasped. "Mom! You're having a baby??" My mom shook her head and laughed. "No, Maya. We are getting a Welsh Pony!" Everyone cheered. The whole family has wanted to have a pony for a long time. Welsh ponies are my favorite! I was so excited. "Is the pony a mare or a gelding? Or a stallion? Where is she coming from? Is there a barn that sells Welsh ponies on our island?" I asked. This had to be the greatest present ever! In Hawaii, there aren't many people that own and sell ponies. "Our Welsh pony is a mare. A barn in San Diego, California breeds and owns Welsh ponies. They are going to mail us our mare in two weeks!" My mom told us. "Wait...MAIL her?" I asked. "How can you mail a pony?"
My mom told me that the barn our mare is coming from will trailer her to the San Diego National Airport. From there, she would be placed in a large horse-safe shipping container. Our mare would fly from San Diego to our island! She would be mailed her by plane. "oh, I almost forgot. Her name is Biscuits." My mom said. Biscuits! An adorable name for an adorable pony. I couldn't believe it. I had to tell King and Solo. I hugged my mom, pulled on my boots, and I ran down to King and Solo's paddock and told them the news. They were more excited about getting their grain, but I knew they would be happy when Biscuits got here.

Finally, the day came to pick up Biscuits and bring her home. Instead of driving to the airport, we all went to pick Biscuits up at the airport's quarantine station. She had to stay there for a few days before coming home. This was to make sure Biscuits didn't bring diseases to the island from San Diego. Our family pulled into the parking lot with our big truck and trailer. I jumped out of the truck and headed to the station. There she was, tied up to a hitching rail. Biscuits was in Hawaii! She whinnied to us as if to say, "Take me home with you! I want to play with you!" My parents signed papers and I led her into the trailer. She was a beautiful bay pony with a stripe down her face. Biscuits had the softest coat I've ever touched. She was perfect. Biscuits was the perfect pony.

Biscuits now spends her time in pastures with King and Solo. She never leaves Solo and King's side. They are all best friends. Biscuits gets ridden six times a week. Biscuits has had so many adventures, from flying to Hawaii to being in horse shows. So, if anyone wants to mail a pony anywhere, here's how.

"Flight"

I sat staring at the mountains out the car window, wondering when my dream would be fulfilled. When we drove by the two horses at the construction site, a palomino and a flea-bitten gray, I glanced at them. They were both geldings, and they were very calm and patient with each other, as if brothers. I sighed. I couldn't have my own horse, whether I liked it or not. I had tried finding a place to do riding lessons, but my mom said, "Wait until I find a job, then I promise you can start." I found a place that offered private lessons for thirty-five dollars, but no price could change time.
Bored, I pulled out my book and read the cover before opening it. The Guardian Herd--the best book series. Not just about horses, but about flying horses. I've read the whole series about five times, and each individual book about six or seven times. They were so good. They never got boring.
When I opened t the correct page, I started reading: "Star hovered over the yearling filly who was stuck in the pond. "Relax," he nickered, attempting to soothe her panic.
She tried to speak but couldn't through the water. Her front hooves thrashed, chopping at the ice."
I stopped reading. I didn't feel like reading. For my mom, that would be the biggest surprise. She thought I would like to sit around for a whole weekend and read. That might be true, when I'm being lazy, but I'm actually quite active. I can run thirteen miles per hour and I love to jump--jump like a horse, jump on a trampoline, or jump in general. But I mostly like to jump like a horse. My older sister Ali thinks it's dumb, but she used to do it herself. And it's not dumb; it's fun. I like to make jumps in my yard with big branches that are too big for my sisters to jump, and I like to canter or gallop through the course, pretending sometimes that I'm riding bareback on a wild buckskin stallion, or sometimes English with a fancy black Thoroughbred.
Later, we visited some friends who lived by horses. They were the neighbor's horses, but the neighbors had told the family that they could pet them and feed them carrots if they could call them over. So I went outside with my sisters to call the horses. The first one to arrive was the gelding I had called Naughty. He tried to eat the kids' fingers, probably because they looked like baby carrots. I was the only one who could get the horses to come to be. Once at a birthday party here, a lot of kids and adults had gone to the fence and tried calling them, saying, "Here, horsey!" or "Come on! Want some carrots?" I had rolled my eyes, made a few clicking sounds, and Naughty had walked over to me. Later that day, I called him over again, and the other horses came over, too. I was alone and had five horses to pet--those were the ones I could reach. The rest pushed each other, wanting attention. The first one to arrive at Naughty's side was a sorrel mare. Her flaxen mane was long and wavy, and my nine-year-old sister had named her Honey. My six-year-old sister had named a flea-bitten gray mare Princess. I had recommended the kids don't feed the horses grass from far away from the pasture. Some gases from cars or gross dirt could be on that grass, making it bad to feed to horses.
This time, I called over the horses by whistling, clicking, and calling them gently, and holding a carrot. I didn't want to "tempt" the horses over, but I was sure they wanted some carrots. We pet the horses, fed them, and I gave them hugs. I trusted horses, so I wasn't afraid of being bitten or getting my toe stomped on, like the time when I was smaller, I was trying to brush a draft horse's mane, and i had stomped to get rid of a fly--right on my foot. I had cried, but I was sure I wouldn't cry this time if the same thing happened. After all, these horses weren't Belgians. But maybe I would cry. According to my family, I "wasn't tough and strong." But I was plenty strong. I could lift up an adult western saddle, no problem.
When it was time to leave, I gave each horse a hug and didn't wash my hands for the rest of the day, so I could smell my hand and have a good scent of Naughty and Honey, and Princess too. My mom wasn't so happy about it. At dinner, she told me to wash my hands. And, even worse, that night she told me I needed a shower! I thought I smelled wonderful, but whatever. Mom didn't know what good smelled like. And horses smelled good. Like heaven. They should make horse perfume.
The next day, a Saturday, I walked outside. I could see my breathe coming out of nose. It was a cold autumn day, and it smelled like fresh leaves, pine needles, and tree sap.
And horse?
I glanced around, confused. There were cows across the road, and horses at the construction site really close, but this was different...it was closer...
And smelled much better than cows. I ran to the part of the yard where there was a ditch full of red rocks. Maybe fake ones, but I didn't know. I stood on a rock and glanced out to the large, foggy part of the yard to my left. I saw a shadow. I walked over there, which took about two minutes because it wasn't so close. As I got closer, I saw what it was.
It was a horse!
Just like from my dreams. He was a black, with a white star. He reared. I walked closer. "Easy, boy," I said, calming him. He landed, showing no sign of wildness, and he put his muzzle in my hand. I smiled, happier than I had ever been before. He turned, put his hoof up, and looked at me with eyes saying, "Get on!" So I put my foot on his hoof and climbed up, and I sat on his back, my heart as light as a balloon. His back was soft, his mane was thick and long, and his eyes were golden brown. He was so beautiful! He had no brand, no horseshoes, not even a sign of humans on him. His back wasn't flat down from saddles, and looked like nobody had ever ridden him. He trotted forward, and I held on to his neck. When he thought I was ready, he cantered. On his back, I felt like I was flying. When we got to our house, I went inside. "Mom," I said. "I have someone to show you." She followed me, and I opened the door. The horse reared, then greeted my mom by nickering. She put her hand on is muzzle. "Where did you find him?" she asked, "and who does he belong to?"
"I found him over there," I said, pointing to the foggy area. "And he belongs to nobody. No brand, no horseshoes, no halter, no saddle marks or bit marks." Then I asked the question I knew she'd say no to. "Can I keep him? He looks so wild but so calm. Maybe he could live in the wild but come visit every day?" I absolutely KNEW she'd say no. She replied, "If he's yours, you have to take care of him! And what if his owner is looking for him?"
"Mom, he lives in a herd! See?" I pointed again to the foggy area, and standing there were horses. Wild horses. Black, white, bay, chestnut, gray, Appaloosa, pinto. Tons of horses! They reared, and the horse reared back, then looked at me and nickered. "Wow," my mom said. "Well, if he comes back tomorrow, consider him yours." I gasped. "Thank you, Mom!" I yelled. I gave her a giant hug.
The next day, the horse came back. I giggled and ran outside to him, grateful for a horse. I got on him, and he galloped. I felt like I was flying.
Yes! Flight! His name was Flight. And for a second, I thought I could see his wings.
Yeah, a perfect name. Flight.

Hoofprints in our Hearts
by hosessaddles

Kissing the wind,
feeling the breeze,
all I can feel is freedom.

Long canter strides,
swish of the tail,
all I can see is excitement.

Beats of the hooves,
whinnies of joy,
all I can hear is happiness.

But how does she see me?
How does she hear me?
How does she feel me?

Well I know,
and she knows,
because we have both left love in each other's hearts.
