There once was horse no one wanted
People thought perhaps he was haunted
He kicked air and he neighed
With no one he played
Really he only felt taunted | 5m9k & Blaze | 2017-01-04 01:46:08 | | “Cassie, why don’t you ride Cleopatra today?â€
Many reasons, Mrs. Andrews, not the least of which being that Cleopatra has the worst temperament of any horse I’ve ever met, Cassie thought scornfully, but when she spoke, her voice was as sweet as honey.
“Ma’am, I’d rather n—â€
“Why don’t you give her a try, Cassie,†Mrs. Andrews said more firmly, and Cassie gave in with a sigh.
“Yes ma’am.â€
After chasing Cleopatra around the pasture for half an hour, it took Cassie the rest of that hour to groom and tack up the fidgety horse, who firmly refused to have the bit put in her mouth. Finally, the mare gave in, and they were ready to ride.
Over the next few weeks, Cassie went from winning blue ribbons to figuring out how to sit a buck, slow down a crazy horse, and drive the same horse to bounce over a jump. Needless to say, Cassie was more than a little annoyed. Mrs. Andrews kept her on Cleopatra, claiming she was doing great, but Cassie didn’t buy it.
After a particularly rough day when Cassie had ended up in the dirt more than once, she finally snapped. “I’m not riding her anymore,†she announced to Mrs. Andrews. “I just don’t get it; I was doing fine before, and now I’m stuck on this nag! What do you see in her? She’s useless! Why don’t you sell her already?†Before she knew it, she was yelling at the top of her lungs.
“Cassie,†Mrs. Andrews began patiently, “Haven’t I ever told you where I found Cleopatra?†Despite herself, Cassie closed her mouth and listened.
“About three years ago, I was visiting my cousin’s horse rescue when the volunteers brought in a new horse. She was severely malnourished, sick and weak. Her coat was so rain rotted and sun-bleached, I could barely tell what color she was. Despite all the odds, that helpless filly grew up to be this beautiful mare you have here. Cassie, what you see as refusing is really just being careful. Her first owners would beat her and starve her if she disappointed them, so she’s learned to be cautious and make sure what you want before she does it. Look at her; she’s confused and scared. It’s written right on her face. Be patient with her, Cassie. She needs to be able to trust you.â€
Cassie turned around, taking in the wild look in Cleopatra’s eyes. How could she have missed it? Because I was blind, Cassie thought. I didn’t care. Slowly she reached her hand up and rubbed the white star on her forehead, and for the first time, the skittish mare didn’t jerk her head away. With a smile, Cassie mounted back up and asked, not told, Cleopatra to walk on.

by DreamerGirl
I heard a whinny from the pasture in front of me. There was a horse - a horse as beautiful as the sunset. It was a beautiful golden bay, and the breed I thought was an Arabian. I jumped down from the fence and slowly walked up to the beautiful creature. She backed away, but then took a step forward. Once close enough, the mare trusted me to stroke her gorgeous forelock. I did so and I immediately fell in love. This horse was everything I could ever want. But all too soon it came to an end. "Mia! Mia!" Someone was calling my name, scaring this horse. I watched as the horse ran away. "Mia! Wake up!!" I felt someone shaking me. "What?" I questioned as I slowly arose. "Mia, it's time to get up! You have school!" I realized mother was trying to wake me up for school, and that what I was experiencing, was just a dream. "Just a dream!" I thought as I got ready for school. That dream will never be forgotten, for the horse in there was too beautiful to forget. "I will call her Dreamer." I said softly to myself. I had named that horse Dreamer. It really suited her, didn't it? But I can never forget, that it was just a dream.
~The End~ | DreamerGirl & Serene | 2017-01-06 17:27:34 | | Flicka
by Emilyy213
I have had my horse Flicka for nearly three years. She threw me off the day before i bought her and i sat there and thought "this horse is the one for me." | Emilyy213 & Flicka | 2017-01-07 01:30:17 | | Crash! A sound made me jump of my bed! I ran to the window. I peer through the smudged window into the darkness. I see nothing. Then a small light. Then a bigger one. The light looks like a flash light and I wonder who it is. Then for a split second I see a stranger riding my very own horse. I rush down the steps calling for my father. Not even bothering to change. We dash outside and bolt towards the stranger although we still can not see his face. Then to our surprise he does not flee, he just simply says," Sorry to wake you folks, a little problem that's all. You see when I went to feed the horses a bucket dropped, made a loud sound, and spooked ginger here. So I took her out to ride around!" At that moment we saw his face and if was none other then our favorite ranch hand. | soccergirl899 & punkin | 2017-01-07 20:45:58 | | I always wanted to have a horse or a pony, but i have never been able to get one. My family have always lived in the city , and have not been able to afford one when we decided to move out to the country. if i do ever get one,
I would name my horse Star, we would always go out for a ride and i would give him/her plenty of love and care. But than i would have to get another one so they would not be alone. I would get one of my other family members to ride the other horse , so that we could go riding together. Anyways some day i will get a horse maybe not now but maybe in the future i might get one. It never hurts to dream for one right!! | beckyf1 & BELLA | 2017-01-09 01:37:04 | | here is a poem i wrote:
Riding
by Raven305
Feeling free is like riding,
Horse and rider are confiding.
Racing against the wind, time,
two become partners in crime.
Conquering difficult feats,
aware of each other's heartbeats.
A team inseparable,
both are vulnerable.
They'll be miserable apart.

They know
by Raven305
Admitting to someone your fears is terrifying,
They know.
Anxiety bubbling inside your stomach where it locks you up,
They know.
Feeling upbeat and brimming with light with no containment,
They know.
Your hesitation on your first ride, your first jump,
They know.
The need to be consoled, when no one else will,
They know.
There are no words needed, as a simple nudge of comfort is all that's needed,
They know.
Coming to the fence with buckets, both filled,
For sure, they know.
