All That Jazz
by Emma Puppypaw

“Gabby! We need to leave NOW!” Sofia shouted up the stairs. I closed my bag and ran out my room. I slipped my riding boots on and ran to the car. “Who’s driving?” I ask. Sofia gives me the look saying, “Obviously me”. I laugh and throw her the keys. She opens the door and starts the engine. I watch my breath as it comes out clouding around me. I pulled my mittens on tighter. Although it wasn’t snowing, it was cold. “We need to drive to the city to pick some things up.” I say to her looking over to the driver’s seat. I click on the radio and Finnish music plays out. Even though she is Finnish, Sofia flicks it to the English channel. My favorite some plays and I sing along softly. Sofia joins in after a few seconds. We drive along our deserted dust roan to the main road, which is also practically deserted. We live WAY out of the city. its like a 40 minute drive to the closest town. We drive down the road for 20 minutes before A small figure comes into view. Its like brown. Like a chestnut horse. As we come closer, we see that it IS a chestnut horse! The car screeches to a halt. I jump out of the car before Sofia has time to unplug herself from her seat. “Hey there.” I say softly as I approach the horse slowly. The animal is skin and bone, and she has a tone of cuts. She is leaning in a few places, and she has dust all over. Her feet are badly looked after, but aren’t too long. I examine the horse, running my hands along its body. “She is in bad condition, but we’ve had worse.” Sofia says quietly. I see her face and can tell what she is thinking. “It’s luck we have the trailer with us. And it has an extra set of traveling gear.” I help her open the trailer and get the traveling gear. I can see the mare shivering from where I stand and know that we have to get the rug on ASAP. I get leg bandages and traveling boots. I wrap the horses legs for extra warmth and protection and strap the traveling boots on. I wrap her tail with a tail bandage and cover it with a tail guard. I put a thin but soft run on, and a thicker rug on with waterproof protection. I put a strap-on fly mask on with sheep skin padding on the inside around the ears and where the mask makes contact at the pole and around the nose. Sofia loads the mare while I get some hay from the back of the truck. I give her just enough for the journey back home. It takes us 30 minutes to get back.

When we get back, we unload her quickly and take her to out small barn. We open the doors and walk her inside. We have 6 stalls on either side, a feed room, a room with all the hay, a room with the bedding, and a tack room. Sofia ties her outside one of the empty stalls on the right, and we get to work. She takes her equipment off and grooms the mare, straying her almost gone coat with a special herbal spray to help it. She gently brushes the mare till all the dust is gone. She puts cream and antiseptic on her cuts. She brushes out her main and tail and does her hooves. While she does all that, I put down a thick layer of bedding and tie 2 hay nets almost bursting with hay in two corners of the stable, and mix a special feed with fattening feed mix, strength feed mix, fitness fed mix, and some turmeric and rooibos tea leaves. I tip it all in a bucket and dump it into the trough. I fill up the water and Signal Sofia to bring her in. She brings in the mare and unclips the lead rope, but leaves the halter on. She goes to call the vet and and farrier while I watch the mare while she eats and drinks.

The vet and farrier arrive in an hour to check the new horse. I stand with the vet with my clipboard to take notes while Sofia trots the mare up and down the barn isle. “She is not lame, but stiff. Her coat is in terrible condition, but I can see you girls have seen that already. Put the cream on at breakfast, lunch and dinner.” He says. I scribble down notes and Sofia nods, listening. “Her cuts aren’t deep and they are luckily unto infected. You did well to look after her when you found her. The feed you gave her is good, give her that for every meal. Give her 1 hey net every time you feed her and 2 nets at night. She isn’t that I can see but I’ll take some tests and get back to you, in the latest 2 days.” I write more and the farrier takes her to to her feet. He cuts then and files them but doesn’t put on shoes. He trots her and the vet hives him a thumbs up and they both leave. I clip on a soft thin rug and give her stable bandages for extra warmth, and take her back to her stable. “She should be okay for now. I’ll go to town and get what we needed, you stay here and look after the horses.” Sofia instructs me. Though she is younger than me my a month and 2 days, she takes over sometimes. I nod and start mucking out the stalls. I give all the horses except for the new horse, she already has, a net of hay and start sweating the isle. When I’m done I walk up to the Mare’s stall. “You are going to be fine.” I say to her. “Me and my buddy Sofia will fix you up. You’ll be fit to ride in no time.” The mare nickers and munches on some more hey. I can see she still has energy to eat, so it shouldn’t be too bad. I take off my overcoat and hang up in the tack room. I get out the tack for me and Sofia to ride and start grooming out horses. My horse is a black warmblood gelding, 16h and a great jumper. His name is Totem Pole a.k.a Totem. Sofia’s horse is a 16.1h gray gelding called Sky High a.k.a Sky. Also a great jumper. I finish grooming them and put their tack outside their stables. I go inside to the house and make myself a cup of cocoa to wait for Sofia.

Amazing Grace
Part 2/3
By ponylovers5454

"So.... Jenna... Why were you crying... You know... On the day of the... Accident?" Avery Dallas asked Jenna Morton as the two of them, and their other friend Emma Smith, sat on the wooden fence that was containing their ponies."My parents got a divorce and then they were going to send me off to boarding school..." replied Jenna."Oh no! I'm so sorry!" Avery exclaimed."Don't be! I'm staying with my dad, and he's GREAT! My mom would've NEVER agreed to buy Copper!" said Jenna as she looked out at her new pony Copper. About a month before, they had got in an accident."I'm so glad that he's OK!" Said Jenna. Then Avery looked over at Emma, who was staring at the ground, dead silent."What's wrong?" Asked Jenna, who had just noticed Emma."My parents got a divorce too... I know how you feel."
"Oh..." replied Jenna."But I live with my dad now too! So yah, life's pretty good!" Exclaimed Emma."Hey guys, why don't we go on a trail ride?" Said Avery. The other two girls nodded their heads and smiled."MRS. JENNINGS!!! WE'RE GOING ON A TRAIL RIDE! WE"LL BE BACK IN AN HOUR!" Called out Avery."OK! You guys be careful!" Replied Mrs. Jennings from the feed room. The girls tacked up their ponies and cantered through the snowy fields. Then they all slowed to a trot as they neared the woods. The girls weren't paying attention and suddenly, Emma's pony, Popcorn, slipped on a small patch of ice. Emma jumped off just before Popcorn fell to the ground."POPCORN!" She shouted. Popcorn laid there and then tried to get up. Finally after five minutes, the girls got him up."Popcorn! Are you alright?!" Cried Emma. She checked his coat for cuts or blood and found nothing, but when she saw his lower left leg, she knew something was wrong. There was a bump Popcorn's leg. Emma felt it and it was hot."It's swollen..." Cried Emma. Jenna got off her pony and looked at it,"He's pulled a tendon." She said instantly."Is it bad?" Asked Emma."Not too bad... We should be able to walk him back to the barn. But then you'll have to let his tendon heal for quite a few weeks and then you can gradually start working with him more and more each day." Exclaimed Jenna."How do you know all of this?" Asked Avery. "My dad's a vet!" Replied Jenna. The girls then slowly walked Popcorn back to the stable, then Jenna's dad came and put an ice wrap on it."Hosing it with cold water helps, and ic it every day." Instructed Jenna's dad."OK.." replied Emma. The girls took care of Popcorn, then they went inside and had a hot cup of hot chocolate.

The True Meaning of Christmas
By: hosessaddles

Trying to pick out your favorite horsey supplies,
Screams of joy on your horse,
Meeting Santa at the mall,
Hope.

Presents under the tree,
Pretty lights,
A new horse in the backyard,
Love.

Spending time with your horse,
Watching classical Christmas movies,
Enjoying playtime with your horse in the snow,
Joy.

Spending time with family and your horse,
Giving,
Being grateful for what you have,
Peace,
because Christmas doesn't come from a store,
or lights,
or decorations.
It's about being grateful for what you have,
Giving to everyone,
Spending time with and loving your horse,
Loving and being with family,
And celebrating Jesus.
That's the true meaning of Christmas.

The Flag Will Fly
Chapter 2
By simbasimba

As we ran through the field I could smell something odd, It smelt like this was where a battle just recently was; The Battle Of Antietam! I jolted to stop, almost knocking Stephanie off. Little did she know that I could hear cannons in the distance, to far for her to hear, but not far enough to not pose a danger. "What's the matter" Stephanie asked? She tried to kick me into a trot but I stay put, I didn't want to disobey her, but I couldnt bring her any closer to the danger. Finally she got down and attached mylead rope and tried to get me to move, suddenly I heard a rustling in the brush, she heard it too. Next we heard a man yell "Help"! Stephanie immediately let go of my lead rope."Kyle stay" Stephanie said.

Stephanie woundered and tried to find the source of the noise, when I believed that she found it she yelled, "Kyle come over" so I did. After all, spending so much time with her she taught me lots of commands. When I walked over and looked I saw what she saw immediately. It was a Union soilder lieing in the brush, by the way he held his side I could tell that he was hurt. He looked at Stephanie and told her, "My name is Liam" then he stopped talking.

The Brumbies of Aulstralia
• Chapter 1 • The birth of Thowra
Varonnica

It all started on a pitch black night, a storm had awakened over the rockies. The wombats had fled their burrows and the kangaroo's ran to safety under the tree's, their homes destroyed. Ms. Mcfarland looked outside her window and saw Scott and his friends walking through the ran which was about three feet deep. He called out to Karren Mcfarland, and she grabbed her coat. Her daughter Mindy was watching. "Ms Mcfarland!" Scott called out. "Yes Scott?!" She yelled, her voice muffled by the patter of the sleet of rain and lightning bolts striking past the sky. They were talking about the horse breaking later on in the year, and the weather changes. The conversation ended, and she went back inside. Karren took off her coat, and started to type on her typewriter. But she was innterupted by her daughter. Mindy had broke her porcelain palomino horse. A lightning bolt had struck nearby, and she screamed. Her mother rushed into her room. "Mindy!" She yelled. "Mindy I heard you scream." She came into the room, drying her hands on her apron as she saw Mindy sitting on the wooden floor, with the shards of her Porcelain horse in her hands and scattered on the floor. "Oh.. Your favorite." She said. "I was so stupid." Mindy implied to her mother. "Your not stupid, it was an accident." She sighed with releif that it wasn't something far more worse then a broken horse. She bent down, and started picking up the shards. "I will take care of it, your okay. I have some glue and while you do your chores tomorrow, I will start working on it in my office." She said, smiling at her daughter. "Then again I thought your scream was --" A lightning bolt struck and Mindy screamed, and her mother took in a breath of air sharply, and they both laughed. "Come on, Get in bed and I will read you a story." Mindy smiled and gave her the shards of porcelian she had in her hands, and got in bed. Karren collected the rest of the horse and and went down the hallway and into her office. She slid the horse into a pouch she had hanging on the doorknob, and she got her book. Mindy had been lying in her bed, Waiting for her mother to return. Karren came into the room and lied in her bed, and started to read her the story of the mighty Thowra, a wild creamy palomino stallion.
It began in the night, in a storm much like this one. Bellvelle, a palomino brumby, had been preparing to give birth to a foal. She had found shelter under a rocky slab, away from the rain. Soon, Thowra was born. At this time, Mindy had fallen asleep. Karren had kissed her goodnight, turned off the lamp, and closed Mindy's door. Thowra is welcomed into the world, and his adventure's await him.

Though Christmas is Past
By: PonyPalClub

Though Christmas is past,
You remember you still had a blast,
And the Christmas tree lights,
And the beautiful nights,
Remember that day,
Don't let it die away,
Remember who gave all those things to you,
And love those times when you laugh and play, too,
Though Christmas is past,
Doesn't mean that your happiness can't last,
Even your horse has a special gift,
You, being its friend,
And riding on the trail ever so swift,
Remember your horse's Christmas nicker,
Welcoming you in that fine hour,
And how your horse ran in the field with glee,
My horse does the same with me,
Still hear the sound of Jingle Bells,
And share the story that you tell,
And as you ride through the wind and snow,
Just let yourself know,
That it is okay to let Christmas go.

"Always there"
By Twilit (Aka Alice, not Kailey or Lizza XD)

It was a cold crisp afternoon on the Wilfers farm, the cows swished there tails as they chewed the grass slowly. The grass dripped from their mouths as they did so.
Jessy Wilfer walked to the small pasture behind their barn that contained 5 horses....including her horse. Jasper, her buckskin gelding, looked up from the grass to see her coming and started to trot over exitedly.
"Hey boy! How's my Jasper stone doing?!" Jessy giggled, Jasper coming over and excitedly muzzling her hand.
Jessy sighed. "Jasper, what would i do without you......." She asked quietly, thinking about what happened during the past months.
Her family had moved from North Dakota to Arkansas in November and had moved into a big two story house that was owned by a family friend of theres. Jessy had struggled during the move, not wanting to leave behind the only place she EVER knew, the only HOUSE she ever remembered was that one. All the memories she had made with Jasper where in that house and she had left it behind..
School wasn't any better..
Normally Jessy was a bright and funny young girl who always loved to make her family laugh, but lately, she didn't talk much.
She had no friends at school she could REALLY talk to.
It was always a joy coming home after school and riding with Jasper on the trails around her new home.
She had a best friend named Ashley she left behind. They did everything together. Together they where the most weirdest and randomest girls at there school, and they both LOVED horses.
She didn't have anymore contact with Ashley anymore..
"I better get you tacked up i guess..Less of this moping and more doing Jessy!" She proclaimed, perking up and turning to walk to the tack room.
As she did a tall thin dark haired boy sped past her. "Hey sis! You off on a trail ride with Jas?"
"Yep, we're gonna be like Merida and Angus! FLYING THROUGH THE AIR! CLIMBING MOUNTAINS! AND STUFF!" She shouted, giggling.
"Good for you two!" He laughed back.
Devon was Jessy's twin brother who was older by a few minutes, he didn't like horses much but he was her only sibling.
Ever since they where young they where very close, always laughing at eachothers jokes and just going with the flow.
They both had dark brown hair and eyes and both seemed quite skinny. Everybody joked about them being starved by there parents.
When they where both born, there parents said that Devon didn't even cry but Jessy did. They said that when she was crying Devon looked over at her and sort of smiled seeming to say, "Dont cry, be happy!" and thats why Jessy was such a crazy and goofy young girl once she got older.
"Oh, by the way Jessy, mom said that one of your new friends called earlier, she wanted to know if you where coming to your party." He asked in a low sarcastic kind of voice.
Jessy shrugged. "I dunno....Maybe i guess." She mumbled as she began to walk to the tack room.
"Well, i gotta go, she said if you are to get ready soon because the party starts at seven! Seeya later!" He shouted as he got into his white jeep and drove down the gravel driveway.
Jessy sighed and picked up Jaspers tack and brought it back out to the pasture.
"Allright boy lets get you tacked!"

~Later~

Jessy and Jasper walked along the trail, Jessy took in the beautiful scenery as they walked. Jasper's ears where straight up and every once and a while he would toss his head in excitement.
A long tree branch over hung and Jessy bent over to get away from it.
As she did she heard snickering coming from three other girls she hadn't noticed until now.
"Wow, what a dork!" a girl on a chestnut said to another girl, giggling.
"Hey how about you shut up! Who gives a flying flip that im a dork. I like being a dork!" Jessy said back to them, a bit angrily.
"Well your wearing converses, you should be wearing boots...And your not even wearing a helmet!" The girl asked, the others two girls snickering.
"So what, im not afraid of getting hurt." Jessy replied.
"Nevermind, forget it. My names Ashley, whats yours? Probably something like Jezzabelle, you look like a Jezzabelle." She said in a annoying bratty voice.
"Your kidding right?...." Jessy asked with a look of annoyance on her face. "My named Jessy..."
Suddenly Ashley stopped everything and looked at Jessy.
"Wait, your names Jessy?" She asked.
"Yeah...Why?"
Suddenly Jessy understood why..
"Ashley!?!?!?!"
"Jessy?!"
"Oh my gosh! I cant beleive it!" Jessy walked Jasper over to Ashleys horse and began to go in for a hug but stopped. Ashley didn't look to happy.
"Uhm, please dont hug me.." She said rudely.
"Come on Ashley! We haven't seen each other since like January of this year!" Jessy said frankily.
"Ugh, you where always so annoying..Come on girls, i have to get gome in time for dinner." Ashley spat, turning her horse around and beginning to canter away, the other two girls on her heels.
"Wait! Ashley! What do you mean i was annoying?!?! Your my best friend!" Jessy shouted.
Ashley didn't respond.

~At home~

Jessy got back to the stable and untacked quickly and angirly. Jasper looked at Jessy confused and wondering why she was upset, nudged her.
"Oh Jasper......!" Jessy began to cry and fell onto the ground in front of him.
Her best friend had betrayed her....
Jasper looked down at Jessy and nickered softly as if to say, "Why are you crying?"
"Jasper....It wasn't your fault. It was Ashley, she doesn't even know how much she meant to me...And now she hates me and hangs out with those other.............SNOBS!" She sobbed.
Jasper reched his down to Jessy and nuzzled her hair.
"At least i have you boy..." She said, smiling up at her horse.
She stood up and hugged the gelding and continued to silently cry into his soft neck.
"I love you boy....."

~The End~

Your horse will always be there for you. <3

(Extended ending)

Devon walked into the barn to find Jessy for dinner and walked up to Jaspers stall.
"Hey sis, you in here?!" He said walking up and looking over the stall door.
Jessy had fallen asleep on the hay beside Jasper and had tear tracks on her face.
"Uh......Jasper? Explain boy..." He joked.

Devon opened the stall door and walked in, picking his sister up and carrying her to the house and laying her on the couch.

(Yes, brothers are always there too....XD)
