BFF's, Between the Worlds
Chapter Two: A Dangerous Search
by Roncy

Seaside Sands, a beautiful, sandy-colored palomino mare, stooped down to let my best friend, Rae, on her back. I mounted Rain, a black and white paint, using the same method.
We were in The Land of Horses, a mythical land where horses originated. We were taken by our horses into the world to help keep the vortex between our worlds open, but we had a limited amount of time to do it - or else, we'd be stuck here forever.
"Okay, were's the first item?" I asked Rain. "And what is it?"
"The first item we need-" Rain began, but was interrupted by Rae.
"How many items are there?" she asked.
Seaside Sands looked at Rain, then answered Rae's question slowly. "We have three days to find four items."
"And what are they?" I reminded her.
"It's easier to show you," Rain told us, "So hang on."
Aware of what was going to happen next, Rae and I clutched their silky manes, and the horses galloped off. I've never felt such freedom in my life as I did then. I was grinning from ear to ear when we reached a cave. I dismounted and walked inside, behind Rain and Sands.
I walked towards a wall and looked down. It was hieroglyphics -
on the ground! Horse hieroglyphics! I kneeled and touched a drawing in the dirt of a horseshoe with lines spreading out from it, but the drawing was obviously very ancient and wouldn't budge.
"That is one of the items," Rain explained, standing next to me, "The Golden Horseshoe." He waved his hoof at three other drawings: a tree whose branches looked like a horse with a big X in front of it, a pearl sitting right in the entrance of a small cave, and finally, a sparkling flower in the middle of a vast field that must have had a perimeter of quite a few miles.
"Horseshoe, tree, pearl, flower. That sounds easy," I said, mounting Rain.
"Not quite, but let's start with the pearl. It's nearest," Rain said quickly to Sands, who agreed.
Rae and I were nearly asleep when we arrived at the edge of a forest.
"You said it was the closest!" Rae complained.
"It is," Sands said, quickly changing the subject, "The pearl is in the Forbidden Cave. You two must go in the forest and look for horse tracks. They are from one hundred years ago, when Neya'la, the owner of the pearl, placed the pearl there."
"Won't his tracks be washed away by rain or other tracks?" Rae asked.
"No, the trees are too thick. Legends say that those who enter never return, and also no horses can fit."
I nodded. "Rae, let's go," I said, pushing back brambles and thorn bushes to make an entrance.
"Wait! You must remember not to drink or eat anything in there. It makes you trapped inside your own confusion," Rain said, and Rae shrugged and nodded, and I did the same.
"Good luck!" Sands whinnied in her silvery voice.
We stepped into the forest quickly. We quickly found the tracks, and followed them. After about half an hour of hiking through the thick trees, Rae and I spotted a small pond. We ran toward it, terribly thirsty, but remembered Rain's warning and turned away. That when we spotted a grove of dead trees. We brushed past them and came face-to-face with a humongous rock. Rae groaned.
"What now?" she sighed.
I looked thoughtfully at the rock and climbed on top of it. "Look!" I cried, grabbing Rae's hand to help her up. We slid down the other side of the boulder and found a cave right in front of us.
"Let's go," we said in unison, crawling inside. The cave was dark and dingy, but the thought of 'returning home' urged us on.
After a while, I sighed. "I'm about ready to turn back around!" I cried, but that's when I saw a faint light. Rae and I stared at each other and crawled faster.
"More hieroglyphics!" Rae exclaimed, examining figures on the wall. "It has English writing," I added, bewildered.
I read the words out loud:

Take it if thou must,
but use it well,
not for one's self,
take no more than ye need
or horrible things upon thee
will come soon in the future

"It doesn't even rhyme!" I complained.
I waited for Rae's usual positive answer but none came.
"Rae?" I said. I waited for an answer, but again, none came, so I turned around. "Rae!" I screamed, running toward her.
She was staring, mesmerized, at a large, gleaming pearl. "You found it!" I cried, grabbing the pearl.
"Yes, now let's go," Rae said, snapping out of her mesmerization.
We followed the tracks out of the cave, out of the forest, and back to the horses.
"Great job!" Sands sighed thankfully as we exited the forest.
"We were worried," Rain said.
"Yeah, yeah, but what's next?" I asked.
"Well... The next closet item is the flower," Rain said.
Rae and I mounted again and we took off at a gallop. We traversed over fields and hills for a few miles, then came to a large field.
"Ha! A field? This should be easy!" I thought to myself.
"The flower has three petals," Rain said.
"Monocot," I mumbled.
Rain looked at me.
"Oh, sorry, science lesson. Go on," I said.
"There is only one three petaled flower in the whole field," Sands added. I groaned.
"It is easy to find, as everything besides the flower is green. The flower is purple. You'll know it when you see it," Rain continued for her, "so that's the easy part."
"What's the hard part?" I asked.
"There is one way out," Rain said, "And the flower will show you, but the field is enchanted. It causes you to forget why you are there. Just don't think about the beauty of the field while you're in there-"
"Okay. Let's go!" I said, running into the field, not knowing what dangers awaited my friend and me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will Roncy and Rae make it out of the field? Or will they be enchanted and spend their lives in there? Read chapter three in next month's contest to find out!

The Magic Bond-Wonder Chapter 1
By: ameliabrenes5

Eleven-year old Katy sighed as she looked out the car window. She and her family were moving. They were in Florida, their new state and country. In just a few minutes, Katy would see her new home.
She thought about last year, and the white Arabian mare, Sandy. The Arabian was a wonderful jumper, who Katy used to lease. Then, Katy thought trying to blink back tears, she made Sandy jump a jump too big for her. The mare had a serious injury because of that. Not only that, but she had to be put down too.
Katy sighed again, then she saw it. Her new home. It was a little two story ranch house, with apple trees surrounding it. Then, to her astonishment, Katy saw a medium sized pasture, and a little barn that led to it. Her parents went up the little driveway, and parked the car.
"Here we are, Katy. Our new home," Katy's mom said as she unbuckled her seat belt, and got out. Katy's dad did the same, but Katy stayed. This was her new home, and her new life. She better get used to it.
Katy unbuckled her seat belt, opened the door, then slowly got out and closed the door behind her. Her father was unlocking the front door to their new house. Katy walked quietly over to look inside. Her father opened the door, and Katy entered the house.
Right now, it was a little bare, but a little furnished too. There was a living room with a couch and TV, and a kitchen. There were also three rooms. Two upstairs and one downstairs. The one downstairs was the guest room.
"Well, Katy why don't you go to your new room? It's upstairs to the right. I have to help the people with the moving truck take things out," Katy's father said as he went back outside. Katy was left by herself inside this new house.
'I guess I better go see my new room,' Katy thought as she climbed the stairs. When she got to the top, she looked to the right, to see a door. 'That must be my room,' Katy thought as she opened the door. There was a bed, a little table with a lamp, and a closet in the room. The room wasn't that big, but it was a little bigger than the room that she used to have in California.
Katy walked over and looked out her window. She had a perfect view of the little stable and medium sized pasture. Just looking there made her yes get watery. It was her fault Sandy had died. Who else was there to blame? The jump? No, it was her fault. If only she could go back in time, if she didn't make her jump…What was the use? What was done was done. There was nothing she can do about it now. Since the day they put Sandy down, Katy had swore that she would never fall in love with another horse ever again. She would try to do that. No matter what.

The next day, at 10:00, Katy was going out for a walk around her new neighborhood. It was a small neighborhood, with only a few more houses. There was another house with a barn and a medium sized paddock too. But that was all the houses with a barn and something else for horses.
When a grey horse appeared out of nowhere, Katy stopped, shocked. Then a girl, about her age came running towards the horse.
"Lily! Come back here!" The girl was saying as she came over to the horse. The horse stopped. Then, she looked at the girl who was carrying a lead rope, and was walking towards her. The girl clipped on the lead rope onto the horses halter and turned to look at Katy.
"Hi! Sorry about that, Lily, my mare decided to escape from her paddock," The girl explained. "Oh, and I'm Cindy. And you are?"
"I'm Katy. Do you mind if I pet your horse?" Katy asked.
"Oh course not. Lily's very friendly." Then when Katy was petting and stroking Lily, she asked. "Do you have a horse?"
Katy sighed then answered. "I used to lease one, but no. I don't own a horse."
"Oh. Well, my sister owns a horse, she's in college, so she doesn't really get any exercise. If you want, we can go on a trail ride right now. If it's ok with your parents."
Katy thought about it. She knew her parents would say yes. She hadn't ridden a horse for almost a year, but still, it might be fun. "Ok. I'll go tell my parents," Katy said.
"Great! I'll go get my sister’s horse ready, you’re going to Love Jasmine."

"So, this is Jasmine?" Katy asked as she mounted a brown Arabian mare.
"Yep. This is Jasmine. Isn't she sweet?" Cindy asked as she mounted her horse, Lilly.
"Oh yeah, she's sweet all right."
"Ok, let's go."

Apache Barrel Racing Golden Championship
By Varonnica

It was around 1978 when I was born. I am now 23 years old and I compete all around the U.S. We aren't rich, but we have enough. But that all took a downside when our bank shut us down completely and took almost all of our savings for food and entering me in championships. Just to make enough money to get food for us, and hay for our milking cow and my championship winning horse, Chance.
We then started growing apple trees. It wasn't very successful, but we managed a small apple tree in the middle of our field of crops. I couldn't enter in championships anymore either. Until one day that all changed. But, nevermind that right now. I want to tell you my story from beginning to end.

April 11th, 1985

Dear Diary,

Father has now passed away. I now only spend time with my horse. Mother takes care of Jake, My little brother. I practice my riding skills in our small paddock, dreaming of my last championship that I won.

I practice riding with Chance. But I mostly call him Ace. I.m a very experienced jumper and have won my last jumping contest. But my specialty is Barrel Racing. I’m taking over my father's heritage. I will lead the family’s legacy. But that won’t happen, We don't have the money.
I soon stop and give Ace a break. I take his bridle off and have him get a drink. Then I come inside and sit at the table on the wooden chairs with my right cheek resting on my right palm.
"Rihanna, What’s wrong?" My mother says as she bounces Jake while feeding him. I don’t respond. I just ignore her question. "Rihanna. Answer me.”
"I want to enter in the Apache Barrel racing championship."
My mother sighed and rolled her eyes.
"I’m good at it though! And I’m old enough! The prize is $20,000 mom," I say to her.
"Well, We don’t have enough money to enter," she says as she puts the bottle back in Jakes mouth.
"It’s free. Ace will win. If we don’t, we get $10,000. And third is $5000. Please mother!" I beg. She sighed and walked a bit away from me.
"I hope I know what you’re doing...” She mumbled. When that moment happened, Chills went up my spine like the feeling you go over a high speed bump and you come back down. Or when your horse jumps and you come to the ground! I rode to the town and signed my name on the sheet. It was now full, now I had a week to train before the bus and trailer came to pick everyone up.

April 17th, 1985

Dear Diary,

Today was the day. After a week of stressing training, the bus would be picking us up! I’m so excited. But nervous. My friend at my old school called it "Nervicited". A combination of the two.

I started picking out an outfit. I chose my dad’s riding crops when he was racing at my age and a blue blade shirt. I then put my light brown hair in a loose ponytail. I then put on my father’s gold championship belt from his first barrel racing attempt. I then put on my father’s cowboy hat. It fit perfectly. I then put on my brown boots and then looked at myself and smiled in delight. Then I rushed outside to put the tack on Ace. I kissed my mother farewell and then rode to the town in time. They were loading the last horses. I had them load Ace and then I got onto the bus.
I had a huge grin on my face. But when I looked around, everyone was wearing expensive clothing. I frowned and turned pink on my cheeks. I bit my lip and put my cowboy hat over my green eyes. I started to work my way down at the end of the bus. I then had to stare outside my window the whole way, knowing everyone was staring at a small cowgirl.
I heard them saying, "she shouldn't be here. She's so different. That phony don’t know nothing about barrel racing." But I ignored it through the whole ride.

❤ My First Horse ❤ Chapter 1
❤ Varonnica ❤

It was the morning I remember when I woke up in my bedroom having the feeling that I was getting a lifetime worth of Chocolate free forever! It was my Birthday. I was so excited to get my new toys. I didn't even put some shorts on when I went out, Thats how excited I was! Mom and Dad were sitting on the couch grasping some coffee and smiling as they seen me walk in. I had the most cutest, biggest grin on my face in this earth. I was turning 12, And this was the day I would get to enter pre-teenage. Haha, I know, 11 Was Pre-Teen stage. But this is a year in being into it. I sat down and opened up my biggest gift. But I didn't smile and I looked at my mom and dad. "Riding crops, profetional riding boots and shirt, and a velvet black helment? I dont want that." I tossed it on the carpet. Mom gave a huge smile as dad got up and went outside. "Come with me, and close your eyes. I will guide you." Mom said. She put her hand over my eyes. "You better not let me fall!" I said. "Never." She responded. "Okay, Let her see it." Dad said. Mom uncovered my eyes. Then I opened and standing next to dad, was a black horse! I gasped. "Oh my god, Oh My god, Oh my god, I love him!" I said as I jogged up and wrapped my arms around his heck. "Is this why you got me that stuff in that gift?" I asked them. "Yes. He's yours to take care of. He will be boarded at that stable down the street. You can ride your bike there to see and learn to ride him." Mom said as She took a sip of her coffee. "C-l-l-l-l-air?" My dad asked as he turned to mom. She nodded. "Clair Tyson will be training you guys." Dad said. "Really?" I asked as my eyebrows squinted. "Yep. What are you going to name him?" I gave out a bit of a "Hmm" as I looked to see if he was a male or female. "I will name hi-m-m-m-m-m-m... Ace." I said as I rubbed his muzzle. "What do you mean Ace?" Dad asked. "Short for my favorite card in that card game I got last year -- Ace Of Spades." I said as I leaned my head on Aces' neck. Dad nodded with a frown of goodness. "Seems legit." He said. I giggled. "Sooo.. Wheres the trailer to take him to the stable?" I asked looking around. "There is none." My dad responded. "Your going to walk him there. With this." She handed me a red lead rope. I looked at them puzzled. "Well, Im going to put the new clothing on if Im going anywhere in Public." I said as I handed my mom the lead rope. I then came out seven minutes later with my new clothes on. They both smiled and mom handed me the lead rope. I waved them "Goodbye" as I lead Ace down the dirt rode to the stable. When we arrived, I couldn't help but to squeal. I couldn't believe I got a horse! Thats anyones dream animal if they are an animal lover. I seen a girl shoving straw into a stable. I didn't even have to tap her shoulder, Ace's heavey hooves did that! She turned around. "Umm.. Hi. Im Bella. This is my horse Ace. My parents said I'm boarding him here and your my trainer." She leaned aggensted the wall and put some of her weight on it and twirled her tounge in her mouth slightly closed as she looked at me. Then she began to talk. "Well, Bella. Im Clair. Welcome to our stable." She said as she handed out her hand. I shook it as she sqeezed it a bit hard and firmly. "I'll show you to your stall to keep Ace in. Then your going to head on home. We will begin training tomorrow." She said. I noded and followed her a bit way's down the stable. She pointed to a stall with a stinch. "Yuck! Whats that smell?" I said as I pinched my nose. "Thats horse Manure." She responded. "Whats that?" I asked. "Horse poop." She responded. "Well can it get taken out?" I asked. "Yes, Very much." She responded. She handed me the pitch fork and then walked away. After mucking out the stall, I then put Ace away. I kiss him on the muzzle and patted him a goodbye. I arrive at dark and take a long bubble bath. It sooths my sore muscles and I loved it. Then my mom washed my new clothes and I brushed my teeth. Then I put on my nightgown and go to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be so much fun training! I cant wait! That night was the best of all, I knew that stable was going no where, but it seemed like it was. So I was trying to admidiately go to sleep. That way, In about four minutes, it would be time to get dressed and go!

Lost with the Horses
Chapter 2: Over the Log and Into the Woods
by Roncy

I opened my eyes to a dark, star-filled night sky. All was silent, except for the faint chirping of crickets and hooting of owls. Everything was dark and blurry. I sat up, wincing as pain shot through me. I immediately laid back down.
I felt something suddenly touching my shoulder, no, shaking it. Then the figure of a small girl came into focus.
"Kara..." a faint cry got louder and louder, "Kara, can you hear me? It's me, Quintessa! Kara, please!"
I looked at Quintessa, then at the forest around me. I soon realized that somehow, I had crashed into a big oak a few feet behind me. Limbs were broken off and had landed under me.
Everything came rushing back to me right then. Moving, meeting Quintessa, becoming lost in the forest, then jumping, crashing...
I looked at the dingy forest around me. I soon realized that somehow, I had crashed into a big oak a few feet behind me. Limbs were broken off and hand landed around me.
"Quintessa," I mumbled shakily, "I think... I broke something." I winced as she touched my leg gently.
"You just hit the surface of the tree - hard. It didn't scratch you up too bad, but your leg may be broken. Try to stand up," she instructed.
"Okay," I mumbled, grabbing her hand for support. I pushed myself up, but my left leg hurt badly. "I don't think I can," I said, plopping back down. "How'd you get across the log, anyway?"
"I spent a long time climbing it. I shook you for probably half an hour before giving up. I think I fell asleep for a little while," she said.
"What about the horses?" I asked, worried.
"Er, I think I, uh, overlooked that," she admitted. "Queen! Here, girl!" she called.
To my surprise, a replying whinny filled the air.
We heard a scratching sound and Queen leaped over the log.
I could've sworn I saw sparkles floating around her as she landed, it was so beautiful!
Before I knew it, Tessa was hoisting me up onto Queen.
"Now, I'll get Moon Dancer," she said, as if reading my worries.
I sat on Queen for a long time before a cracking sound reached my ears. Tessa's scream filled the air as she came crashing through the bushes on Moon Dancer.
"I found something!" Tessa said excitedly. I followed her through the bushes and she pointed to a set of horse tracks. We both knew what they were immediately, and followed them.
After a while, we came to a waterfall.
"What do we do now?" I cried, exasperated. As if answering my question, Queen trotted under it. I glanced at Tessa, who was soon trotting smoothly next to me.
I will never forget where the tracks led us.
We both gasped at the sight: a big field full of flowers with white horses prancing through them. Queen galloped down the rocky, mountainous hills into the field, and I almost fainted. Those horses were not just any horses; they were unicorns!

Title: Letting Go
By: Horsesforever12

~A short story~

I hesitated. The black beast, shimmering like polished ebony, arched his savage neck so his form was one huge bundle of elegance and majesty. Every black-tipped hair on his muscled body quivered with sheer glory at the thought of racing against the wind. His black eyes, glistening and consuming my soul with beauty, sucked me in like a vortex. His eyes were a portal to his world...a planet of freedom and courage and destiny. A universe where fear wasn't a word and pain was scoffed at. Oh how I wished to join his world! For now my heart was racing within me, pounding and churning and screaming at me to grab him and never let him go. But my mind was being logical, and I hated it for it. "Let him go," it probed, clenching my soul and making my outward being shiver at the thought of it. The creature, a stallion so black that the night looked almost foolish compared to him, whinnied and poked his silky, velvet muzzle into my side, as if to ask me of why I hesitated. I smiled as the hot, salty liquid agony seeped from my sapphire blue eyes and journeyed down my ash-white face. I loved the horse. But I did not own him. He had no master...instead he mastered. He mastered the ground and the wind and the sea. He mastered the forests and mountains and plains. He was freedom in a physical form. How dare I hesitate to set this being free! If I loved him, I would do so. Ignoring my tears, I hugged the muscled beast, breathing in his scent and etching it into my memory. His head swayed and swam back and forth, reeling at the thought of a good gallop. At last I released him and could withhold him no longer. The stallion flattened his slender ears against his savage neck, planted his midnight eyes on the horizon, and reared. As soon as his shimmering, glinting hooves crashed into the grassy turf, his beautiful, sleek body transformed into one of power and wind-thirsty majesty. His muscles bunched and released with every stride, his ten-foot long mane and tail streamed behind him like silken ebony flames or a black waterfall of exstacy. His nostrils flared, sucking in the wild meadow air and saturating his lungs with crisp breaths. His image was now a black dot on the horizon, a speck in God's created world of beauty, a form united with the wings of freedom. He was born free. He will stay free. I turned to go home, my tear-stained cheeks nothing but reminders of what I had loved and forever shall love.

Title: Spring
By: Nat2

When the fishes leap
And the willows weep
And the river awakes from its frozen sleep
I will come again.

When the sky is bright
And the days are light
And the fireflies flitter and dance in the night
I will come again.

When the wild rose blooms
And the tall tree looms
And the butterflies open their small dark tombs
I will come again.

When the fern unfurls
And the warm breeze whirls
And the dewdrops glow on the webs like pearls
I will come again.

When the grass is green
And the air is clean
And the sweet, young promise of life is seen
I will come again.

When the sun shines long
And the birds join in song
And the river trout lazily wander along
I will come again.

When the bluebonnets flower
And each rose on the bower
Show in their beauty God’s almighty power
Spring will come again.
