Wild Hearts (from a horse's perspective)
By: 20horselover02
I was born on a open ranch, one with wide open spaces, I always knew we were fenced in but I never took it seriously.
My mother told me to never go near the fence, but I yearned for adventure! A forgot to say who I actually am, I'm a black mustang filly, pure black, my mom called me Flicka, after she heard the humans calling me that! One day a girl named Carrie, came to visit me, she is the rancher's daughter. She put something one my head, the only way I trusted that is because I have saw my mother wear it.
Anyway, she led me back to the barn where I was born, and walked me around a bit. Then she but something on my back. Again, I trusted her she was my best friend and my mom used to wear stuff like this. After that, she put something metal in my mouth, aaa I didn't care it was alright.
Then, she jumped on my back and I aloud her, and we walk around in the pasture then she open the gate and we ran, and ran, the wind was blowing though my mane and through her hair. I felt
like I was running on air, weightless, flying!!!
I had sooo much fun and so did she, but then we had to go home, and she fed me a wonderful thing, sugar cubes! They were a delight! Then she let me run, run back to the herd. My mother was wondering, where in the world I was, I told her outside the fence, she was sooo worried but I told her not to worry, I was with the rancher's daughter. She aloud it, and we did it again, and again, and forever we shall do it!!!

LOVE for horses
By: Ilovebagels2
Free as the wind, fast as the hind, the horse is a magnificent and wild creature, yet serves mankind so well and so remarkably willingly, thank heaven there are some humans who do their horses well because of the amazing anomaly presented by the horse’s power and strength, and love, treat horses well to save them from being hurt.
- Dedicated to all horses and ponies, everywhere

Free as the Wind Part One
By Ridergirlie944
I was always wild. Until A girl came, took me from my herd, and took me to horse shows. Here is my story.
It was a wonderful day. Birds chirping, flowers blooming. I lay down my head as I wait for the lead stallion to bring us to food. Then, in the distance, I saw another animal. but is was not like i have ever seen. it walked on 2 legs and had long blonde hair. She walked up to me. I saw some thing in her hand. It went on my head. then she jumped on my back and eventually we were galloping. I did not like this, but I heard that the people that try to come and ride us can be dangerous.
End of part one. Thanks!

My Wild Ride
By: Roy Rogers Fan 2
One day I wake up. I go to the stable. I groom my horse Lady. After I go to the tack room and get my western saddle and saddle pad and then I get my western bridle. I go back to the stable and put lady in the cross-ties. I put the saddle pad on her. Next I put her western saddle on. Then I take off her halter and put on her western bridle on her. Last I mounted her and we went on the wild horse trail. When it was about 30 minutes I saw a wild stallion! Lady went crazy and reared and I grabbed on to the saddle horn and Lady gallop out of control. Finally she was out of energy. I rode back to the stable. Then the next day I went back on the trail on the trail with a lasso. I go I find the stallion. I try to rope him but he was to fast. Then I went be to the stable. I thought I would set a trap. I tacked up the mules Mike and Ike. I hocked them to the wagon. I put the panels in the wagon. I jumped in to the wagon. I shock the reins for them to go. We were at a bunch of trees. I put the panels in place. I went back to the table and untacked Mike and Ike from the wagon. I tacked up Lady and went to find the stallion. I chased him to the trap. I closed the gate. I roped him and put a saddle on him and I put a halter and lead rope on him and jumped on him. He bucked hard and I stayed on. A hour later he was tired out and so that was the ride of my life! THE END!

Paris
By puppy7890
Paris, my arab horse was racing across the dusty track. I had to lend her to a racer for the derby. But as the last jump came galloping towards them, Paris's shoe fell off and hit someone! She had a fall, and it had turned out the racer broke his leg. But Paris, she was scared to death, and her racer was trying to stay calm, and not panic. The race was a disaster, and I felt so sorry for everyone, even the other horses and competitors. But now Paris is healthy, but she may never be fit for racing again. after the accident, the rules for racing have changed.

Hearts & Horses, The Show
By Iamfree

I can do this. I thought. I can prove to everybody that I'm right, and nothing will happen. "Okay Hannah, you're up!" My riding teacher, Joel, said. "Yeah, Ms. Anderson, you're up." Susie Muller said sarcastically. She and her friends snickered. I frowned. What a bunch of brats those guys were! "Come on, Hannah, you can do it!" Jade Web called. And I knew she meant it. Jade is the only one that puts faith in me since my accident. Me and my mom and dad were on our way to Huston's Rodeo (We go there every year) until a car came crashing into us. No one survived except me. But I lost half of my left leg and had to get a fake one. I took a deep breath, then started trotting my palomino mare, Sun Rays, (but I called her Rays). Soon we broke into a canter. Rays cantered up to the water jump and flew over it. A smile crept to my face. I loved cross-country! She did the same with the oxer and log jump. I was hesitant when I came to the double oxer. This was the biggest jump I've ever done! Rays turned into a gallop, and we flew over it.
We ALMOST cleared it.
"That was a bummer, wasn't it, Hannah?" Susie snickered. "I noticed YOU struggled with that jump, Susie!" Jade snapped. I smiled at her gratefully. She had always been the braver one. Susie rolled her eyes and patted her horse, Tiara "A slight mistake, because Tiara's shoe was lose." she said coolly. Jade clucked her tongue "Excuses excuses." I trotted up to Jade "You're only going to make them madder." I whispered. Jade shrugged "I enjoy it." I gulped. How can you enjoy payback time from Susie? "Okay, everybody, jumping practice is over. But I expect everybody to be in the ring a lot these past days since the Oberton Competition is coming up." Joel said. Susie rolled her eyes "Please, Joel, me and Tiara don't NEED practice." Joel sighed "You can never be too safe, Susie." Me and Jade trotted back to the stables. "So, what competitions have you entered?" I asked, running a sweat scraped through Ray's golden coat. Jade shrugged "Me and Hugs are entering the Show-Jumping class, then in the walk trot class. Then Lucy wants me to watch her during Dressage, so I'll be busy for a while. What about you?" I put the sweat scraper in my grooming box. "Thinking about entering the cross-country course, then the Pleasure class." I let Rays in her stall after giving her some hay and a bucket full of fresh water. "Bye Jade. See you tomorrow." I waved. I could see the Hearts & Horses van as I walked out to the parking lot. Emma, the owner of H&H, was talking on the phone. I hopped into the front seat. Emma hung up. "Hi." she greeted. Before I go any further, let me explain how I know her. After my mom and dad died, my grandma struggled to take care of me, since she had health issues. She somehow knew Emma, and arrangements where made for me to stay at H&H. It was a Therapeutic Riding Center. It had a small boarding house, a swimming pool, a small pasture and a stable. Then there was a activity and dining house. But I rode at Runaway Ranch so I could board Rays. "Practice went good." I said, leaving out Susie and everything. "How's you're leg?" Emma asked. Since she was the students caretakers, she had to be on top of everything. "Good. Can you believe that Oberton is only a few days away?" I asked excitedly. Emma tilted her head as she turned onto the dirt road that led to H&H "Sunday, right?" I nodded. It was Friday, so in two days I would be going to a real live competition! (NOT like the ones in movies). Emma pulled into H&H. (That's how far away it was!) I bet I could walk from the stables to there, but Emma said it's unhealthy for my legs. (I wouldn't want to visit Dr. Kimbers again. Man, she is strict!) I grabbed my cane that Emma has in handy for me in case it's difficult to walk. But I just wanted to save energy. " Suppers almost ready.†Emma yelled as I walked into the boarding rooms. My room was number 12. I shared it with Trish Hoots and Gina Sliders. I went into the bathroom and changed into a faded pink sweat shirt and jeans. Then I went to the dining hall. I sat next to my BFF, Kate Igloo. She’s high in fashion. Tonight she was wearing a fancy blue sweatshirt and a dark blue jean skirt. Her dirty blond hair was in a ponytail. “Hi!†she said, slowly sitting down in her seat. “Hi!†I said cheerfully, plating my plate high with spaghetti and garlic bread. Kate grinned “How did you’re riding lesson go?†she asked. I shrugged “I got to jump some really high jump today. But I knocked down a rail.†Kate nodded “So, did you like it?â€
“I don’t really know…….Yeah, I liked it!†I said thoughtfully. Emma stood up from the table she had been sitting at “Attention, everyone!†she said in a loud voice. The usual loud chatter quieted down, only the whisper of people wondering what was going on. “As you know, the yearly End Of Summer Fun And Games Day is going to be this Sunday. There will be games, prizes, shows, a parade, and as you all know, a horse competition.†I grinned. Now THAT was something I liked!
****
“…….Trish, I’ll get back to you on that later, okay? I have to take this.†My smart phone rang nonstop, doing the annoying buzz. “Hello?†I asked, huddling in the bathroom. “Oh, Hannah!†The person on the other end cried. “WHAT? Jade? What’s happened?†About a zillion questions popped in my mind. “I tried to change her mind…..seriously, I tried…..but she wouldn’t……LISTEN!†Jade sobbed. “What’s going on?†I asked, panicked. “We have to move!†Jade cried. I almost fell over. “You have to move? Where? Tell me it’s only a mile or two away….it is, right?†I could tell by the tone in her voice that it wasn’t. “We have to move…to…to…..Boston!†Jade almost shouted. “WHAT?†I screamed “This can’t been happening….it can’t be happening….â€
****
“Huh? Trish, what happened?†I asked sleepily. Trish jumped up, alerted. Then her tan face softened when she saw me. “I heard this loud thud, then when I went into the bathroom, you were lying on the floor. I called Emma, and you fainted. Hannah, what happened?†I sighed “Trish, my best friend Jade just informed me that she has to move, like, a million miles away. It came such a shock, and when things were going so well.†An uneasy silence fell upon us. “Well, it’s time to go to bed.†Trish said firmly, breaking the silence. I crawled into the twin bed. I was dying to call Jade, for I had more questions that I could even imagine, but it was 10:51 PM, and she was probably already asleep. But I didn’t sleep a wink that night. Not because of Jade, no, but because of something WAY different. I’ll give you a SMALL clue.
Snooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooor
****
The next morning, my stomach felt like a earth quake had just taken place. I didn’t even try to call Jade, because I couldn’t bear hearing the answer to my questions. I’ll call her later, I had thought over and over again. But I didn’t hesitate to let Emma take me to the stables. The only thing that was worse than this was having that snotty Susie Muller win against me. She’d never let me hear the end of that! That’s why I’m out in the practice arena, trying my best to get Rays to perfect that double-oxer. “Come on girl, if I can do it, you can do it.†I muttered to her. “Having trouble, Hannah?†Susie snickered. “Hardly.†I snapped. Rays side-stepped uneasily. “Sorry girl.†I cooed. “Go ahead, Hannah, I’m sure you’ll nail that jump.†One of Susie’s friends called. “I can do it!†I almost shouted. It felt weird not having Jade there to defend me. “Go ahead, Hannah!†the stable hand, Jenny, said encouragely. I sighed. I could do this. I sent Rays into a canter. A burst of speed awakened me. We FLEW over the double oxer. I rubbed my eyes. Was this a dream? “Woo-hoo!†Jenny cried. Susie and her friends were left speechless. “Told ya’.†I snickered. I may sound like a mean girl, but this was awesome!
****
“Cotton candy, popcorn, and candy apples. Oh, I love the fair!†Lucy Night said excitedly. I smiled. Lucy had just won a blue ribbon in the walk trot class, and know she was going to do the small jumping class for little girls. “Sorry I can’t watch you.†She said. I nodded “It’s OK.†You’re up, Hannah!†Jade said. “Oh, I’m so nervous!†I told Jade. “Hey, you might be able to win! Then you wouldn’t need me to defend stupid Susie!†I nodded. “NUMBER 25. HANNAH ANDERSON ON SUN RAYS.†I breathed nervously “Here goes nothing!†I mounted Rays. Just was I was about to enter, I saw Lucy’s horse, Ginger, bolt out to the open field. Lucy screamed and flung from the saddle. Nobody was going to get Ginger! I knew what I had to do. “HURRY UP!†Susie shouted. I grinned “Yeah, hurry up!†I kicked Rays into a gallop and jumped the big fence. We had to get Ginger! “We can do this, girl!†I said. Rays pace quickened, I leaned over. Uh oh! I felt myself flung from the saddle. Rays stopped, confused. I quickly mounted her and continued my race between life and death. (Not really!) We were catching up! I grabbed Ginger’s bridle bridle and turned her around. Victory!
*****
“Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!†Lucy cried “How can I ever thank-you?†she and Jade winked. What was going on? “Well, I’m going to queit go watch the awards be handed out.†I sighed. It stunk that I wasn’t getting anything! I trotted Rays out to the arena just was they were done awarding cross-country. “And Susie Muller wins cross-country!†the announcer screamed. I sighed. “And we have one last award…we’ve never done this before, because this has never happened.†The announced said “And this gorgeous golden trphy goes to Ms. Hannah Anderson, for catching a runaway horse!†I gasped. Jade ran up to me “And staying at my Aunt Flora’s HERE is another gift for you!†she cried. I grinned and Rays trotted forward. “What is she doing?†I asked. Rays licked the golden trophy lovingly. Now this was a show!

Sunshine Valley Riding Academy { Part One }
By xSilverReins
Sarah stroked Windstorm's mane as she held on to his red halter. It was their first day at Sunshine Valley, so Sarah was nervous. She decided to stop, if she kept stroking Windstorm, she would never get to her dormroom.
Sarah sat on her bed. Her dorm mate looked at her with a look that said "Um...are you okay?". "NO!" Sarah thought. Sarah gave up. She couldn't give her roomie the silent treatment. "Hi. I'm Sarah. What's your name?" "Khloe. But most people call me Khlo." They chattered on and on and on, until Khloe mentioned one thing. "Intermediate & and Advanced Riding Team try-outs are tomorrow! We better get to sleep!" "I totally forgot!" Sarah whispered. They turned the lights off and drifted off to sleep.
"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEP!" said Khloe, acting like an alarm. Sarah opened her eyes. "Khlo, is it time to get up or what?" Sarah asked. "Um. Yeah. Try-outs are super early." Khloe went into the bathroom to take a shower. Sarah's heart thumped. It was almost time! Khloe came out of the bathroom a couple of minutes later, fully dressed in spotless breeches, shining tall black boots and a white polo shirt. She carried her helmet in her hand. "Khlo, can we dress in simple polos like that?" "Uhhh...Yeah!" Khloe said like it was obvious. Sarah went into the bathroom with her clothes. She had choosen a hunter green polo, matching Windstorm's saddle pad and polo wraps. She showered, letting the warm water fall over her.
Windstorm stood patiently in his stall while Sarah tacked him up. His black saddle and bridle looked as expensive as they were, and the hunter green saddle pad looked beautiful against his black coat. They were ready. Sarah put on her helmet, pushing stray hairs into the hairnet. She opened the stall door and led Windstorm out.
Ms. Whitebrook smiled at everyone. "Hello. Welcome to Sunshine Valley Riding Academy. You are at the Intermediate & Advanced try-outs. If you were going to Beginner & Novice, those are being held in the indoor arena." No one seemed to be going there. "We will begin with Sarah Parker." Sarah gulped but Khloe mouthed "Good Luck" so Sarah felt calmer. "Trot on the fence, and Canter at the next corner. Sarah kicked Windstorm into a trot, and got him all ready for the canter. Sarah felt magic as she posted, going up and down. They were inches from the corner. They had to canter now. "Canter, Windstorm. Please don't do what caused me to not be able to..." Windstorm's canter cut Sarah off. She heard the thundering sound of hooves hitting the ground. "Jump the course!" Ms. Whitebrook boomed. Sarah guided him toward the jumps.
"Good job!" Ms. Whitebrook said. Then she whispered softly so no one could hear, "Meet me in my office after try-outs are finished."
Sarah came in to Ms. Whitebrook's office. Ms. Whitebrook pointed to a seat. Sarah sat down. Ms. Whitebrook began, "Sarah, I know you feel uncomfortable talking about your accident, but I wanted to tell you I know that you were injured really badly, breaking your ankle and collarbone and I know Windstorm refused to canter, and made a sliding stop. But, I need to tell you, keep it secret if you would like. You are under no obligation to tell anybody." "Thank you Ms. Whitebrook. But I think it's time to spill the beans."
That's part one. Part two will be written next month!
