A story for my brother: The boy who wanted a pony
Ponylover1709
For my 5-year-old brother. I love you!
Chapter 1
I woke up this morning and didn't know it would be different. I did the normal; brushed my hair and teeth, got dressed, ate breakfast, and enjoyed the summer air. I walked to our stable which had room for 6 horses. We owned two. My mom gave private lessons so the other four stalls were always full with horses boarding here.
Our 6 year old Clydale, Smartie, pulled the carriage, just one of our money-earning ways here. Another was the lesson, which was $100 for two lessons, a resonable price. My horse was King, a young thourbred, who had silky black fur. He whinnied hello. He was sometimes used for lessons as well.
"Sweet heart!" My mom called, standing at the stable's entrance.
"Yes mom?" I asked.
"I gotta take Jake to the dentist, handle Carrie's lesson please!" Mom said. Jake was my brother. He was nine and didn't have a horse but loved them. Carrie must have been new; I never met her before. I was already 14 and did a few lessons for the young kids. A women was holding her daughter's hand. The girl was cute with curly blonde hair. She looked nervous.
"Hi!" I said. "I'm Emily, I'll be your instructer for this lesson." I said.
"Hi, nice to meet you." The women said. "This is Carrie, she is six years old, she loves horses and I felt she was two old for those $1 short rides at art fairs. It's going to be her first time riding a real horse."
"Okay Carrie, let me find you a pony." I said, looking at the two ponies. They were boarding here and we had permission to use for lessons.
"How about...Charlie." I said, putting a halter on the 14hh bay shetland pony. Most ponies had tempers, but I'd trust Charlie with a newborn. If I didn't have King, I'd probably have Charlie. I put cross ties on him and got some brushes.
"Okay Carrie." I said. "Charlie is very gentle. You wanna brush him?" I asked. She nodded shyly.
"Okay, this is called a curry comb. Make small circles on him." She did as told. I showed her the soft and stiff brushes, the hoof pick, and then put on his tack. I undid his cross ties and showed Carrie how to lead him to the ring, where I helped her get up.
"He's high." Carrie said nervously.
"I got him; you won't fall. I'll just go slow and if your ready maybe later we can trot." I lead him around the ring twice and showed her how to hold the reins, and she guided him around with my help.
"Look mommy! I'm riding a horsey!" Carrie yelled. Charlie didn't even look up at the noise. Soon the lesson was over and mom was home.
"Thank you Emily. Carrie, will you come back next week?" Mom asked. Carrie nodded yes and clapped.
I was brushing Charlie, talking to mom when Jake came in.
"Mom?" He said. He took a deep breath. "I'm a great rider and I realy want a horse." He said. Mom smiled.
"Horses are a lot of money." Mom said.
"But mom! Emily has a horse. I'm almost ten. I'm going into 4th grade!" He said.
"Alright. Here's the deal." Mom said. "I didn't just give Emily a horse. They are a big responibility. You are a great rider. There is a horse for sale for $5,000. You know my lesson prices. They pay a lot, and we have a lot. Emily can teach you how to help with lessons; Emily can help you guide the carriage; you can feed and clean stalls, and earn money. If your a good boy, I may pay half price for a horse."
"Mom, I don't know how to do that stuff!" Jake said.
"Are you willing to do it?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, but-"
"Then Emily will help you."Mom said. Emily, I expect you to teach him. Start tomorrow."
Chapter 2
"Rise and shine!" I yelled at 6:00 AM as the sun began to rise. Jake yawned.
"It's 6:00 o'clock!" Jake said.
"So? I get up this early every morning. Don't you want that horse?"
"Fine." He said.
"I got you some toast and juice." I said.
"Thanks!" He said, taking the plate from me. We rarely fought and loved each other. We walked outside.
"What's first?" He asked.
"We gotta feed and muck out stalls." I answered.
"How do I do that?" He asked.
"I'll show you." I answered. We walked to the stable and I gave a wheel barrow and six buckets.
"Take these buckets to the hose and fill them up. Bring them back in the wheelbarrow."
"You do thise every day?" He asked.
"Pretty much." I said. He returned five minutes later while I was feeding.
"Okay, now what?" He asked.
"Put a bucket on the hook in each stall." I said, pointing to the hook.
"Ewe! Charlie's doing his buisness on my shoe!" Jake yelled. It took every bit of power I had to not laugh.
"They do that." I said. A car rolled up. Carrie and her mom skipped up.
"Hey Carrie!" I said. "My brother's trying to earn money for a horse so he'll be helping today."
"Hi Carrie, I'm Jake." Jake said. I brought out Charlie and got some brushes. Jake helped Carrie with the brushes. While they did that I mucked out three stalls. I'd show Jake how to do the other three later. We got Carrie on Charlie and headed to the ring.
"Jake, walk her around the ring two times." I said.
"No prob." He said, doing as I told. He came back a few minutes later.
"Okay, watch me now Jake." I said. "Carrie, you wanna try trotting?" Carrie looked scared.
"Uh...Is he fast?" She asked nervously.
"No, Charlie's pretty slow." I answered truthfully. "Don't worry, I have him. You won't fall."
"Okay." Carrie said.
"Trot Charlie." I said, holding one part of the reins while Carrie held another. It was more of a fast walk then a trot, but still, it wasn't a walk. I stopped him.
"Was that fun?" I asked.
"Yeah." Carrie said.
"If you don't want to he won't go any faster." I told her. "Jake, show her how to post." I said.
"Uh...Heels down, toes in, now up and down. Good!" He said. I smiled at him as Carrie posted successfully while Charlie stood there. While she posted Jake moved Charlie to a walk, and then I helped him do a trot. Soon the lesson was over and Carrie cooled him down by walking around another two times. Carrie's mom payed and Jake untacked and brushed Charlie.
"Now what?" Jake asked.
"Take a shovel and a wheelbarrow." I said, taking out a horse. "All you do is put all the old straw and manure in the wheelbarrow, then put down clean straw." I said. He did as told and did pretty good for a first time. He repeated with two other stalls.
"Good." I said. "You need a break, wanna go trail riding?" I asked.
"Sure." He said, taking out Cece, a bay quarter horse. He tacked her up and I did the same with King. We walked to the beggining of the forest trail.
"Race ya to the pond!" Jake yelled, already galloping off.
"Hey!"I yelled, doing the same with King. We were next to each other, the pond in sight. It was close but King won.
"No fair! You have a thourbred!" Jake yelled.
"It was a tie!" I lied. We let the horses drink for a while then head back.
The week reapted that day. The day came when he already had $1,000!
Chapter 3
Jake and I did the normal, fed the horses, cleaned stalls, and took care of Carrie's lessons, who got better daily. Mom came home at around 4:00 o'clock with a trailer. She told Jake to close his eyes. I knew what was coming. I think Jake did too. Mom took the light grey stallion out of the trailer, and told Jake to open his eyes.
"Your new horse!" Mom said.
"Mom! He's beutiful! Oh, he's just liked I always dreamed of! Ben." He said.
"Ben is a nice name." Mom said.
"I used to go to kindergarden with a kid named Ben, remember? Everyone was jelous because his family was rich?" Jake said.
"You've been a good boy, Jake." Mom said. "I'll let you keep the money you earned to buy food and tack. Emily will take you."
I took him the next day, and we put on the new tack. Jake mounted Ben and warmed him up, then galloped him to a 3 foot jump, which they sailed over. The two got better every day and became best friends.
11 YEARS LATER
I drove my car to the old stables I used to live at. I now had my own where I lived with King. I did lessons for kids and Carrie was going to try to get to the Olimpics next year. I believed they good after seeing them clear a 6 foot jump. Mom lived with me too, and Jake owned our old stables.
"Hey bro." I said, seeing him.
"Hey." He said.
"How's Ben?" I asked.
"Great, my girlfriend's riding her." He said.
"You know, your a great rider now." I said. "But I still remember when you were just the boy who wanted a pony.
THE END
TO MY BROTHER:
I love you, and your the boy who wants a pony. One day we will have some horses, I know it. Keep dreaming and you will live your dream.

The Diary Of A Horse
By: RiderGirlie944
(sorry i said after a couple years and it says 2012 but i could not think of a good year!!!)
I wake up in the stall i have been living in for the LAST WEEK!!! My owner, a teenage girl who still gave me exercise twice a day, 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm, and was named Julia. One day she came in and opened my stall door. she gave me hay oats and water and when she was done she said she had a surprise. she came in with a girl about her age and she told me it was her best friend, Lizzie. Lizzie had short curly hair and was blonde. Julia said Lizzie was going to ride me for a little bit. I said " I don't think so!!!" in my mind. I reared up and it hit my stall door and slammed it shut. The next day she tried again and i just trusted her. i mean what could go wrong? when she was on my back and she dug her boots into my side to say " i'm ready to ride." when i started off, i trotted. then i cantered. then before i knew it i was galloping!!!!!! the next couple months the same thing happened again and again. after a few YEARS i was riding in a big arena that had a sign that said "OLYMPICS 2012" and had 5 rings on it. after a little bit i was on a stand that said " 1ST PLACE" on it. after a little bit i was in the Kentucky derby and won the triple crown. than i was retired and than that's the end of my story.
The End.
