Hi, I’m Thalia, and I’m a spy. Wait, sorry, the Chief is calling, “Hey Chief.â€
“Hello Thalia.†Zzzz
“Dzzz meet zzzz bank zzzz ten minute zzzzâ€
“Chief! Someone just hacked in then hung up!â€
“I know, I heard it too. If I were you, I would head to the bankâ€
“Which one?â€
“Hmm… Try the US mint in Washington D.C.â€
“Thanks! I’ll call Dysis, bye Chief!â€
“Good-bye, and good luck out there.â€
So I hung up and dialed Dysis’ number. “Hello?â€
“Hi, Dysis, it’s Thalia. The Chief just called, mission time!â€
“’K, meet you in 10 minutes, just need to finish fueling my 4-wheeler.â€
“Meet me at my place! I need to tack up Jordan. I’ll call Chief back and get a chopper here in 20. Bye!â€
“Adios!â€
I hung up again and redialed the Chief’s number.
“What now.â€
“We need a chopper in 20. Bye.â€
“Good-bye.â€
After I hung up I ran outside to get my bay Hanoverian Jordan. When I got to her stall, I looked in and saw her lying on the straw. “Oh, no! Jordan!†I ran in and checked her stomach. “Colic. Guess it’s time for Freya.†I ran inside and made yet another phone call. I dialed my vet’s number.
“Hello?â€
“Hi this is Thalia Wolf, I’m calling because my Hanoverian, Jordan, has Colic. I won’t be home, you know me, I’m an agent. Send Burt.â€
“Okay, bring me back something.â€
“Okay! I’ll bring you back a stuffed animal. Bye.â€
“Yay! Bye.â€
I walked away from the phone and went to Freya’s stall instead. Freya is my Black Quarter Horse mare with a white hoof. “Hey girl. Want to go on a mission?†I asked my beautiful girl. She nodded, part of her training as an agent horse. The reason I wanted to ride Jordan was Freya has just completed her training, for this reason exactly. She was a replacement for Jordan, she is going to retire soon, even sooner now. Freya stamped her hoof on the plastic and foam covered concrete floor of her stall. She was ready to go, I ran to the tack room and grabbed her saddle and bridle. I also grabbed her saddle bags and grooming kit. It had a plastic curry comb; a hard Dandy brush; a soft body brush; a mane and tail comb; and a hoof pick. I walked back to Freya’s stall, weighed down with her stuff. I placed everything but her saddle bags on her tack rod. I ran back to the house to fill up the saddle bags with food on water, they’re both airtight. As I ran back, I heard Dysis’ four-wheeler coming down the road. “Hi Dysis!†I shouted over my back.
“Hey Ajax! Ready for the mission yet?â€
“Not yet! Just five more minutes!†I tacked up Freya and rode out. “Hey look! There’s the chopper!†A cobalt blue helicopter soared into my front yard. “Wonderful! Now my neighbor’s will wonder why a chopper landed in my yard,†I rode into it. The pilot laughed as Dysis and I walked in.
“Where to Missy’s?†The co-pilot asked.
“Washington D.C., the closest landing pad to the mint.†I replied, the helicopter blades started to whir, and we were off.

Aero Unlimited p2-
by Rio3535.
" Count Stephan won't recover. It's broken, his hoof is split and one of his bones in his hock is broken. It'd be the wisest choice, Lee. "
" So it's agreed.. Doc? " Liam McLee says mournfully.
" Let me go get it out of my truck. " Doc says, her blue eyes twinkling sadly for the horse she helped raise when he was only a foal, the one she helped train and the only horse she'd sneak a carrot for. She turns, walking out of the track area, her vet tech following, dragging the portable x-ray machine out alongside himself.
Liam sighs, patting the great brown stallion's head, whispering happy words to him. He doesn't notice when Tanner walks up, Aero following behind, and pats him on the back. Kneeling down and patting the stallion's forehead, she taps Aero's head twice.
~My father is dead. I have no kin in the world but my half brothers and sisters. I am the last horse to race him. The final lap. The Kill-zone. I should of told him, but I did not.~ Aero thinks. As Tanner taps his head, he lays down, pressing his nose into Liam's side, nickering sadly. Liam turns and pats Aero. The Count lifts his head and lets out a long, shrill neigh. The crowd, silent until now, calls out encouragement to the stallion.
Doc walks back in, a huge vial of vile pink fluid in a syringe in her hand. Tears race down her face as she looks at the group, kneeled around the fallen stallion. Tanner gets up, moving the the stallions head and yanking off her cross necklace. Holding the broken chain in her hand, she places the cross on the crown of the stallion's head, whispering a prayer.
" Alright. I'm going to inject this into him.. Say your good-byes.. " Doc says quietly, patting The Count and giving him a small kiss on his neck. Liam kisses The Count's forehead, murmuring
" You are the best there ever will be. Ever. Now it's time for you to fly into the sky and race amoung the clouds. How does that sound? Kathy can take care of you like she used too.. My sweet daughter and my best stallion.. The way it should be, hmm? You can go now. To the clouds. "
Tanner doesn't look up from her prayer but kisses his forehead and stands up, murmuring a soft 'amen.'
Doc bends down and sticks the syringe into him, into the vein. The one that will end his pain. She squeezes the liquid into him, and within the next minute the great stallion was no more.
~ I have once heard from you, Father, that when a horse dies they fly in the sky. I want you to go higher than that and fly in the heavens. You deserve it. I will carry on your legacy in anyway I can. I promise. ~ Aero nudges the stallion's head, then rears up, punching the air furiously and then lands in a deep bow. The crowd's cries of mourning turn into cheers of joyful sadness as the brown stallion bows to his sire.
" Remember the ones that have passed into His gates and remember who they were and what they did, for the world would never go on without them. We pray you admit The Count Stephan into your lands. Amen. "
The last words were said and The Count's big, brown body was lowered into the ground, still wearing Tanner's silver cross on his head. As the funeral goers throw in a handful of dirt, Tanner stops and places a picture of Him, Liam and Tanner on his grave, right after they had won the Kentucky Derby for the first time. Old and Worn, the picture shows Tanner on top of The Count, smiling and hugging the stallion while Liam was holding the check and a little girl was holding the Count's head, seeming that she had only a mind for The Count.
" This picture.. " Liam begins. He had burnt it after the young girl holding The Count's head died in a robbery.
" Kathy was The Count's hero. She helped raise him. Kathy was my daughter. Not just another stablehand. She was The Count's best friend. When he was blue, or when he was so angry he could of killed someone, Kathy was his savior.. " Liam begins. Tanner cuts him off as the picture is buried underneath the soil.
" Kathy was a good child. The Count was a good stallion. Now they can be together. Let us praise the fact The Count has his best friend back. " Tanner says softly as the last of the dirt is piled onto the grave.
All the stallion and the little girl could see was three figures and a horse standing at the mound of dirt where her companion's body lay.
" It's nice to see you, Count. "
The stallion neighs, and the horse-figure lifts his head and rears up, responding with a shrill neigh.
" Time to go, big guy. " the girl hops onto Count's back and they ride off into the sunset, their ghostly bodies fading as the two realize they can go on now. They have each other.
It was once said that a horse was never truly free until he was given his freedom to do as he wishes.
This two-part story gives us a look into the day of a race, when a horse gets hurt. We are not the only ones to decide when a horse dies, but often it seems that He is not on our side and we have no choice when the horses we love leave us, or how they wind up leaving us.
I will be posting a new story next week called:
" The Legend of Zraa "
Make sure you vote for me :D I'd appreciate it!

Finding Summer Heart
by runaway
Part 1: The Beach
Lily went to the stables to ride Shy. Shy is a short grey paint horse, with white markings. Lily doesn't own Shy, but she is saving up for her own horse. Lily has about five hundread dollars and needs a thousand more before she can get one. Lily gave Shy a quick groom and got her ready for a ride. Today Lily was going to go to the beach, yesterday she went to the meadow, Lily mounted Shy and took off at a trot to the beach.
Lily was at the beach and she heard a horse nearby but didn't see one. She heard it again and this time it was louder and closer. Lily got shy at a gallop and while she was galloping there was a big log in the way, bigger then Shy. "Come on Shy you can do it" Lily said. Shy got ready to jump but it was too high for her so she stopped all of sudden, and turned around and took off. When she did that Lily went flying over the log. When Lily got up off the ground she heard the horse again, she walked toward the sound where she heard it.
She looked to her right and saw a beautiful palomino mare, standing there looking at Lily. The palomino mare had a long mane that went to her hooves, and her tail was so long that when she walked, it looked like it was part of a long dress. Her eyes were blue and she had a white blaze, Lily saw her and slowy walked toward her. The mare looked Lily straight in the eyes and walked toawrd Lily.
Lily got close enough to the mare and remember that she had an apple in her bag. She got it out and offered it to the mare. The mare took it. "I'm Lily, I don't know if you have a name or not so I'll call you Summer Heart," Lily said. Lily saw a green halter and a pink lead rope, and she put the halter on Summer Heart and then clipped on the lead rope. Lily walked Summer Heart back to the stables and told everyone how she found her, and that Summer Heart was a wild horse.
Part 2: Training
The next day Lily went to the stables to see Summer Heart. When she got there Summer Heart was already groomed and her stable was clean. Lily looked around and no one was in the barn, Lily went back to Summer Heart's stall when she saw a note on the stall door. It said 'Lily we are going to be gone for a week, we had to go to a show jumping event, you can go to them if you can train Summer Heart for show jumping. .... From, Lila, Sarah, Hannah, Anna, and Lisa. P.S. we groomed Summer Heart for you. :)' "Great" Lily thought.
Lily got Summer Heart ready to ride with the tack that they left for her. Lily took Summer Heart to the riding ring, she mounted Summer Heart just fine and walked her around. Then she took Summer Heart to the jumping ring, and practice some jumps. Every time Summer Heart jumped Lily thought she was flying, she was holding on to Summer Heart's mane instead on the reins, and she was riding bare back.
Part 3: The castle
Lily looked down and saw Summer Heart's wings, then Summer Heary went down on a cloud and stopped. Lily tried to get off Summer Heart, and couldn't feel ground so she stayed on Summer Heart. Summer Heart walk forward towards a pink castle. Lily looked around and saw more horses just like Summer Heart all around. Then she looked forward as they got close to the castle. She saw a note on the castle door it said 'Don't worry about anything you are a princesse and someone will explain it all to you, just stay on Summer Heart. P.S. she is yours to keep.' So Lily did what the note said to do and she stayed on Summer Heart. Then Lily leaned forward and gave Summer Heart a kiss.

Title-The Perfect One
By-BriBri1010101
The stallion eyed the gray arabian mare. Her coat was pure white with a dapple on her face. She pranced around about the valley as if she were floating on air. The stallion couldn;t think of how gaceful she was. He nickered to her, thats when he realized she was the perfect one.
He neighed softly to her. The stallion had never seen a mare so beautiful and graceful. He was the leader of his herd and he needed her. She would have his children, and they would be beautiful. They would live happily ever after, or thats what he thought. He didn't realize that he would have to fight, that she was already taken.
Just then another stallion appeared. the stallion then knew that he would have to fight for her. The stallion charged. You never have heard such a terrible sound. The winning stallion didn't even have a scratch on him, but the other stallion was not so lucky. The winning stallion knew that he would challenge anything or anyone so this beautiful arabin could be his.
Finally the beautiful arabian mare was his. They were the leaders of their herd and had beautiful children. Some were black like him, but most were beautiful like their mother. The stllion knew that as long as she was here life would be perfect.

The Rising Sun and the Fallen Star
by RacingBelle
There was a time when two herds, the Herd of the Rising Sun and the Herd of Fallen Stars, were at war. Herd members were forbidden to say the other herd’s name, instead calling them the warring herd . During this time a young colt and filly both were receiving instructions from their fathers, the leaders of their herd.
You have grown up well, my Golden Sunshine. You have completed your training so you could better serve you herd, am I correct? Sun Warrior said. He looked over his daughter proudly with fond eyes.
Yes, father, Golden Sunshine replied. The golden filly was calm but her ears were pricked with earnest.
Then you are ready for you first mission. There is a young colt called Dappled Luna, getting ready for his first border patrol, so our spies say. Go and make friends with him, get him to like and trust you. From that point you are to learn everything you can about their herd. How many individuals like foals, yearlings, and elderly horses that are unable to fight? What is the size of their fight force and what is their fighting style? What are their plans for battle? I want to know all this and more. Do you understand? The palomino stallion raised his head higher looking for acknowledgment from his golden daughter.
Yes, father! Golden Sunshine’s hooves danced eagerly.
Don’t keep me waiting now, filly, go! Sun Warrior said, playfully but with a touch of impatience.
I won’t let you down father! I’ll be back in the coming month! Sun Warrior watched with the growing sense of success as Golden Sunshine’s form got further and further away. His daughter was going to be the best spy he’s ever had.
^*^*^
It is time, son. Today you shall go on your first border patrol without the help of the older warriors, Night Hawk commanded.
What border will you have me patrol? Dappled Luna was eager to get started. His father nodded, pleased with his son’s calm enthusiasm.
The one closest to the warring herd. Now-, Night Hawk was cut off by Dappled Luna’s excited whinny. The colt started tossing his head, prancing in place, and swelling up to almost twice his size with his bursting pride. ‘So much for calm enthusiasm’, Night Hawk thought. Settle down now. As I was saying you to do everything you would normally do on the patrols you been on before. Except on this border you’re to be extra vigilant. If you detect any activity from the warring herd come right back. Other wise it’s a normal patrol that members of the herd go on everyday. Night Hawk finished explaining the task to his son. Dappled Luna’s excitement had faded and he was dead serious now.
I’ll do my best, father, Dappled Luna wheeled and galloped off to the border.
^*^*^
Golden Sunshine trotted across the border, leading to the Herd of Fallen Stars. Not that she knew the name, of course, because she hadn’t heard the name in her life. On the way to the border, the golden filly had crashed through brambles and bushes, snagging branches and thorns into her mane and tail and leaving small, thin cuts on her legs. Golden Sunshine wanted to look as disheveled as possible. Golden Sunshine heard approaching hoofbeats. Going from a bright-eyed, prancing filly to a tired, scared, lost filly, she started to amble forward as if she didn’t hear the hoof beats or that she was too tired to.
^*^*^
Dappled Luna had picked up an intruder’s scent and charged to it. He reared a massive, gray form in front of a golden filly. Dappled Luna regretted the action slightly, seeing how scared the filly looked and now she must be terrified. The filly was, after all, his own age of three years. Yet she can still be a still be a spy from the warring herd! Dappled Luna thought and the regret faded. Who are you and why are you on the territory of the Herd of Fallen Stars?
˜So that’s what this herd is called..’, she thought briefly.M-my name is Golden Sunshine. My h-herd was passing through an-and I got separated. I was l-looking for a herd to stay with u-until I can find them. Golden Sunshine stammered. She started to shake from the end of her nose to the tips of her light gold tail. In her mind she knew this was the colt her father had told her about. Golden Sunshine could tell by the way the colt seemed to question his actions and then approve of them after a few heartbeats.
Why do you smell of the warring herd? Dappled Luna was still a little apprehensive of Golden Sunshine’s story but was convinced there was truth in what she said.
I stumbled upon where they were camped and asked if I could stay with them. The leader turned me away and chased me out! Then I got lost and...and.. Suddenly, Golden Sunshine burst into tears. I’ll never find my herd! Never!
Dappled Luna was taken aback by Golden Sunshine’s crying. He nuzzled her cheek. It’s all right now. I’m sure my father will let you stay, if you can’t find your herd. He’s the leader of the herd. Golden Sunshine’s crying started to fade to sniffling.
You think so? Golden Sunshine asked. Her face looked doubtful but there was a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
I’m sure of it. My name is Dappled Luna. You can call me Luna, if you want. Luna blew into Golden Sunshine’s nostrils, the way a herd member greets another. Golden Sunshine blew back.
You can call me Sunny. Golden Sunshine’s voice stopped quivering and she relaxed visibly.
Let me finish my patrol and then I’ll take you back to my herd, Sunny. Dappled Luna started to trot off. When Golden Sunshine didn’t follow he looked back and said, Come on. Golden Sunshine trotted close beside him as Dappled Luna finished his patrol. All the while she nonchalantly noted the way the border was checked.
^*^*^
Night Hawk approved the golden filly to stay with the Fallen Star her until she found her herd or even if she didn’t. He observed how Golden Sunshine and Dappled Luna would never be seen apart. After getting the approval of Night Hawk, Dappled Luna had introduced everyone in the Fallen Star herd and explained the daily routines and explained why the herds were at war and whispered, very softly, the name of Golden Sunshine’s own herd, not that he knew, immediately forbidding her to repeat the name under any circumstances now that she did know. As the month drew to a close, and Golden Sunshine finding that she had gathered everything she needed to know and more, knew it was time. Dappled Luna knew it was time for something else though.
Father, can I ask you something? Dappled Luna was talking to his father one evening. He was seeking his advice on a matter that had been bugging him for a while now.
Anything, Dappled Luna, you know that. Night Hawk looked at his son carefully. Was something wrong? The colt definitely has something on his mind.
Do you think Golden Sunshine will stay? The month is drawing to its end and she hasn’t found her herd! I’ve even helped her to the best of my ability to find them, even though...even I’m going to ask her to be my mate. Dappled Luna lowered his head to where it was at the height of his knees and scuffed the dirt with one hoof.
I think she’s going to stay, it sure seems like it. As for you asking her to be your mate, I give you my blessing. You and Golden Sunshine will make a great pair. I’m very proud to see you grow up to become a mature young stallion. Night Hawk touched Dappled Luna’s shoulder. When are you going to tell her?
Tomorrow. Sunny went looking for her herd again. That’s why I came to talk to you. Dappled Luna’s head went up and he stared his father in the eye. I hope she says yes. Then he turned and went to his sleeping place.
^*^*^
Golden Sunshine had other plans. She did not return to the herd. The cunning young filly knew that Dappled Luna had fallen in love with her. Now was the time to break that bond, to make him assume that she was dead. Golden Sunshine was going to return to her true herd, the Herd of the Rising Sun.
Dappled Luna had tracked Golden Sunshine’s movements to the border next to the warring herd. A frighten cried burst through the silence of the mountain forest. Dappled Luna stopped and pricked his ears. This time he could hear the cry clearly.
Help! Help me! They’re taking me! Help! Luna! Luna help! Golden Sunshine had scented Dappled Luna on the wind and started the beginning of the act. She squealed and kicked and reared and lunged snapping at enemies only she could see. Then she fell silent, making her tracks deep and scuffed, as if she had been dragged away. When she was over the border, Golden Sunshine galloped back to her herd not looking back once to see Dappled Luna.
Don’t worry, I’m coming! Dappled Luna shouted and rushed to Golden Sunshine’s aid, but when he got there, there was no Golden Sunshine, only a tangle of tracks. No. No, no, no. She can’t be. She can’t! Dappled Luna couldn’t see how many horses took his friend. All he knew was that she had to be dead. There was no hope for her survival. Dappled Luna screamed his anguish. He reared and struck a tree. I’ll get you, warring herd! I’ll get you for taking her! I’ll kill you all! Then he turned and galloped to tell his father about the warring herd’s daring attack.
^*^*^
Both herds were marching to battle. Golden Sunshine had gotten back to tell her father when the warring herd would attack so they were ready. She was marching in the middle of the battalion of the battle. Dappled Luna had begged his father to be in the front line of the battle and had gotten grim permission. He was out for revenge. Both were no longer a young colt or filly. Both were now a young stallion and a young mare, declared so by their fathers.
This battle was the longest both herds had ever fought. In the middle of it, Dappled Luna and Golden Sunshine met. Sunny! You’re alive! Dappled Luna was consumed with joy to see that his friend was alive. Golden Sunshine threw up her head. She had expected this.
Of course I’m alive. You really didn’t think my own herd would hurt me, now would you? Golden Sunshine said sweetly. Dappled Luna was confused.
Your own..but...no! Any horse but you! Any horse at all! Just not you! Not you... I was going to ask you to be my mate! Dappled Luna was shocked and hurt. He had fallen in love with a traitor and a spy...it was just impossible. Not his Sunny.. Not his friend... Not his would be mate...
I’m sorry. It’s not everyone but me. It’s me. The same mare you met by your border. Oops, not the same mare. I’m a Rising Sun. Your a Fallen Star. You see the difference. We’re of different herds. I never loved you. I was ever you friend. Golden Sunshine laughed coldly. I can’t believe you fell for that. All this.
Even your closest friends can be your worst enemies.

The Unbreakable Mustang
by cookie 800
KATE: Hope, come here. I want to show you something.
HOPE: What?
KATE: (takes her hand) Oh just come on.
Hope and Kate walk out to the barn and over to the indoor. Camera zooms in on Dynamite.
HOPE: Who’s that?
KATE: (sighs) That’s Dynamite. Pretty, huh?
HOPE: Kind of, if you’re into that sort of thing. Why are the buckets all right here in the front?
KATE: We don’t go in there.
HOPE: Why?
KATE: Because, she’s a mustang.
HOPE: Really?
KATE: Yea. She came in about 6 months ago. She’s the only horse that Jim and Tina have never been able to train.
HOPE: Why not?
KATE: (smiles) Because, she’s got an untamable spirit.

Spread Your Wings, Based On a True Story
By PoseidonGirl99
I watch as they take him away, my beloved sorrel pony. It takes all my strength not to run away in horror. I don’t want to look at it, I don’t want to see the pain he’s in but I have to.
The head vet touches my shoulder and I look at her, “he’ll be okay, he’s a tough one.†I bite my lip and nod, wishing I could believe her with all my heart.
How could this happen?! How could something so bad happen to him and me? I finally break down and cry on the ground as they rush him away.
Maddie sits down next to me and sets a hand on my back, it feel warm against the coldness the air suddenly took on as soon as it happened. “I don’t think-†I gasp for breath between my sobs, “what’s going to happen?!†I raise my head out of my hands and met her eyes.
She looks at me, pity filling her face as she whispers, “I don’t know.â€
After I cry my eyes dry mom drives me to the animal hospital. “Mrs. Kara said he’ll be out of surgery in just an hour.â€
I look at her from the passenger seat, how can she be so calm? No, wait. I narrow my eyes, her arms are stiff, her stare focused on the road ahead of us, her back is rigid and her eyes are puffy as if she’s been crying too.
I reach over and touch her arm, even though I’m the one who needs the comfort. She looks at me with her sea green eyes and smile back at her with my blue/grey ones. She grips my forearm and nods firmly.
I relax back into my seat and take a few deep breaths, I should figure out what happened. I lean back into my chair and close my eyes, and replay what happened just an hour ago.
It happened after our practiced today, we where practicing for the local hunter show, would we even be able to do that know? Would I ever be able to ride him again? No, focus, focus Spring. We had finally reached our goal, a 3ft oxer. I smile with pride and pleasure before remembering my mission.
I had cooled him out bareback before taking him inside to be sponged off, since we had been pushed to both are limits. He was nibbling my pony tail when- I squirm in my seat and moan a little, my mom barley notices since a truck speeds by and takes the place in front of us.
It was a truck- no a tractor- it had backfired. Even if Eagle was nearly bombproof this sound was not a sound he had heard before. He spooked, the cross-ties snapped- I open my eyes and shudder, holding myself to assure myself I’m not in that moment anymore.
My mom pulls into the drive to the hospital and I crane my neck to look down the long drive. “Faster!!â€
“It’s a 5 mile an hour speed limit.†She points to a sign.
I roll my eyes, open the door and undo my seat-belt all at the same time. She starts to shout something before closing her mouth and watching me sprint. I skid into the low building that smells like a zoo and jog up to the front desk. “I’m Spring Pecker; please tell me where I can find my horse, Eagle? He’s a sorrel quarter horse!â€
I almost pity the woman as she types as fast as her red painted fingers can go. She then points down the hallway still squinting at her screen, “room 9b.â€
I race down the hall giving her a fleeing “thanks!†before sliding, and almost falling, at room 9b. I raise myself up to the small window and see Eagle on a metal platform raised up by cables on the ceiling like a table. Vets in white coats and mint green scrubs hover over his eye. I look away as they extract something. “What are they doing?!†I fall up against the door and slide down.
I keep a picture of me and Eagle in my wallet at all times so I can show anyone who asks about him, I look at it now. The crumpled paper faded parts of the photo but you can still see my bright smile and Eagle’s bright eyes as we lie in a field. I remember I was reading to him, a book about a girl who lost her arm.
I open my eyes as something hits the back of my head. I move away and the door swings open, Dr. Kara blinks at me for a moment before smiling under her mask. “Hello, Eagle’s just about to wake up.†She moves aside and I scramble to my feet, still moving my legs about awkwardly on the smooth floor as I dash to Eagle’s side.
He lies on his left side, his right eye covered in bandages. “W-what have you done to his eye?†I ask softly, almost fearing for the answer.
Dr. Kara removes her mask and a frown tugs at side of her lips, “we had to remove it.â€
I look at her for a moment before quietly moving my gaze back to Eagle. I move my hand over where he eye would be and start crying.
No one moves me as I cry until Eagle shifts his head. I sit up and stroke his neck, trying to stop crying. I smile through the tears as Eagle shifts his head and lips the hem of my shirt. “I’m here, buddy, it’s okay. It’s all gonna be okay.†This sends out another round of tears.
“3 weeks stall rest and she can start riding him again. But take it slow, just walking and trotting the first week. Then maybe some cantering, I’d wait at least another 2 weeks until jumping.†I over hear Dr. Kara and my mom talking. “There is a possibility…â€
3 weeks stall rest? 5 weeks until we can jump again? But the show is in 2 months! Will he even be able to jump 2’6 in 8 weeks? As tears well in my eyes again they ushers us out. Will he ever be able to jump again?
“Mom, the show!†My mother takes my arm and leads me to the parking lot.
“There are more important things than a show, Spring!†Her eyebrows draw to the canter of her face, “even if he can never jump again, won’t you still love him?â€
Her questions makes me feel guilty, “well, yes, of course…†I look away. “He’s my pony, right?â€
She sighs, “I know you wanted to do that show, but Eagle might not be able to do it.†She moves my hair out of my face, “let’s just hope for now.â€
I press my lips together to fight back tears and nod. She smiles with sad eyes, “I love that horse just as much as you do.â€
“I know,†I whisper.
“The horse world is allot more than just riding.†She kisses my head and we exchange smiles.

Into the Madness
By: RisingEquestrian
"Nicole Sparks and Hollywood Bound, you're up next."
Holly pricked her ears at the sound of the announcer's voice. I felt her tense up as the big bay before us spooked at the last jump, a scary black and red oxer, earning him and his rider an elimination.
"Shh, Holly, don't watch that. Don't go getting any ideas." I was talking to both her and myself. This was our first time at a show together, as well as my first time showing at a height of 3'. I knew my equitation had improved since last spring, but the thought of competing against rider who ride 3 horses a day, everyday was enough to make me want to barf. Every rider wants to do well, despite everyone telling them it didn't matter how they did, as long as they had fun.
I jumped at the feel of a hand on my knee and looked down. It was D'Andre, my long time trainer and friend. "Not nervous at all, eh?" he winked at me. I shook my head, trying to clear it of all negative thoughts.
"No, not at all. Can I repeat the first course?" I asked, hoping he wouldn't see through my pitiful alibi. D'Andre did, as he has know me for years.
"Sure." His eyes crinkled up as he smiled.
"Ok. Circle to the left, blue diagonal, outside line, end jump, other diagonal, other outside line, centerline jump turning right, ending circle." I repeated, picturing the course in my mind. It was difficult, but not as hard as the ones we had practiced at home. But that was at home. The showing world was a completely different story.
"You've got it, and just in time. It's your turn. Good luck!" He patted Holly's rump, waking her up, and she tossed her head in indignation.
Here we go, I thought. Into the madness.
It feels like there's no hope for you when your trainer wishes you good luck. It's like they know you won't do well, but they don't want to crush your spirit with that fact.
"Now in the ring is number 124, Nicole Sparks and Hollywood Bound."
I slid my leg back a smidge, and applied pressure. Holly glided into the correct lead, gently but firmly striking the ground. We completed our circle and headed for the first jump, a long approach to a large, bright blue vertical. I checked Holly, keeping her stride balanced, as she had a tendency to become strung out before her jumps.
Suddenly I felt her stride shorten and become quick and hesitant. I pushed her forward, but it was no use. Her back legs came under her and she slid on the soft footing, her front legs braced out in front of her.
"No." I whispered, as my body curled against her neck, my arms still on her neck.
Holly knew she wasn't supposed to stop, and she, being the honest mare she was, attempted to lift her legs over the obstacle.
My mind felt as if it were totally unattached to my body. My brain was telling me to push up, and sit back, so I didn't fall. My body, however, had a different idea. It slid forward, my feet slipping out of the stirrups. I was now on top of Holly's neck, making it impossible for her to jump. She crashed into the wooden poles and plank, knees buckling. I flew off her back into the array of colored wood.
The world collapsed. Everything was a mess of colors and noises, giving me total sensory overload. The stars popped in front of my eyes, and everything faded to black.
